Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'damage' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'damage' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair shop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
So, agree, why take any risks, you can always keep the old tires for street use later.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was driving in the city last fall and somehow picked up a screw in my tire - a nice surprise, I know. The body of the screw went into the tire, but the head remained outside when I touched it, the head just fell off leaving the body of the screw still inside the tire (passenger side rear).
I took it to a tire repair shop for evaluation. After removing the entire wheel and running some soapy water over the screws entry point, the shop proclaimed it had not punctured the inner wall and that the tire was fine. I told him I might be driving pretty aggressively and even tracking the car, but he still didnt think it would be a problem. It has been 4 months and the tire hasnt leaked a bit.
Do any of you have experience with this? If I do a DE with a car that has a screw inside the rear tire, am I asking for disaster?
If it's in a tread block you might be ok but if it's in a channel I wouldn't risk it and would buy a new tire (or pair of tires if they're very worn). If you have a tire plugged/patched its speed rating is considered invalidated and it should cause you to fail a pre-track tech inspection
I read that when a z rated tire has three plugs in it, it loses its z rating. If it hasn't damaged the inner lining, i don't understand why a little superficial hole in the rubber would make difference? Granted the tire will be used at high speeds and loads but a little hole in a tire that didn't puncture anything shouldnt' make such a big diff. Just thinking out loud.

BSC - Interesting question! Do you know how long the screw is? Did they remove the rest of the screw? If they did I would not worry about it. If they left it in there, I'd be concerned that loads or hitting a bump with the right part of the tire would drive the screw further into the tire. LIke Steve, I am assuming it is in a tread block where the rubber is thicker.
I had a screw in a sidewall and looked pretty innocent. When they removed it was 4 inches long. The issue is damage to the belts. When you track if the belts come loose, it will cost much more then a tire. I would not risk it.
if you get a screw (or other object) in the sidewall the tire MUST be replaced. NO EXCEPTIONS! you're asking for a high speed blowout otherwise.
as far as on the tread of the tire, if it's within 2 inches of the edge of the tire, you should ALWAYS replace the tire unless the screw was in a treadblock and didn't get close to the inner lining. but how do you tell how close to the inner lining the screw got? do you have an x-ray machine? the price of a new tire is a small price to pay for your safety. if you have enough money for a 996 then you should have enough money for a new tire (or 2 if necessary).
