Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this is a stupid question, but I just got the car and the headlights don't seem that bright. It was used and the dealer said it was equiped with the xenon lights. I had xenons on a bimmer and it was really obvious they were on there. Anyone have a pic of what the headlight assembly should look like? What is the main difference phycially between the regular lights and the xenons when you look at the assembly? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

the xenon lights have a 'lens' type device that is in front of the gas discharge unit. also, the xenon lights move up and down when you turn on the car and also when you switch to high beams. the regular lights are very simple. also, if the bottom part of the light is completely orange, that is a dead giveaway that you have regular lights.

POST 3Original post

Easy, the Xenon have the silver cap the covers the headlight washers.

POST 4Original post

turn your lights on at night and stand back 100 feet or so on a surface level with the car. if they have a bluish tint, you've got the litronics. the clear vs orange lower lens on the assembly has more to do with build dates within the model year as opposed to the litronic option. mine have a "self leveling" feature which swivels the light each time its turned on - not sure whether this is specific to the litronics or not. just see if they're bluish or not. also, i'm sure someone will be able to provide an option code you can check under the boot...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

mine have this clear eyeball looking thing (about 3" wide) on each side with what looks to be a regular halogen bulb right below it. does this sound like the xenon setup? i haven't noticed the lights moving up and down when i turn them on as they did in my bmw.

POST 7Original post

Deputydog95, that description of your headlight assembly sounds like Litronics. Regular headlight assembly has a uniform lens -- meaning the same general appearance as the 964s and 80's 911s if you're looking at it front and center. I'm in the process of upgrading mine with a Litronics retrofit kit, and the clear "eyeballs" are the main visual difference compared to my regular headlight unit. Congrats on your new car, by the way.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i'm not near the car right now, but from what I can remember, they look the bottom pic with the pair of lights. mine is an 02. it doesn't have headlight washers though. is that supposed to be standard with the xenons in 02? also, is the eyeball thing the xenon projector lens?

POST 9Original post

If you have 601 on the sticker then you have xenons.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i must have them. i finally went out and looked at the lights some more. they don't have that blue tint like the bimmer, but the bulbs did move ever so slightly when they were turned on. my bimmer xenons moved a hole bunch when first turned on. these only moved about a half inch at best. besides, the non xenon's don't have that eyeball lens thing apparently so they must be xenons. checked the option sticker. no 601, but i do have 801 which doesn't show up in the option codes. can you have the xenons and not have the headlight washers?

POST 11Original post

If you wake up and they are stolen, chances are they were litronics. I was thinking of upgrading, but given current rash of litronics being stolen, I will be staying with regular.
