Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Then I simply disconnected the cables on the 996 (making sure the two connectors didn't touch) and started her up.

did you just hook up the cables and let your other car run for 15 minutes?

When this didn't work I tried the quick charging setting for 2 hours before I gave up and hooked up the jumpers.

I'd be using an Acura 3.2 to do the jump with quality cables.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Battery is too dead to start the engine, but the lights still come on. I'm taking it in to get a new battery. Is it ok to do the standard "jump" between two cars to get it started or is the P-car too sensative for that? I'd be using an Acura 3.2 to do the jump with quality cables. Any tips or thoughts about jumping the car in order to drive it over to get the new battery put in? P-car is a '99 C2. Thanks.
I have jumped my 1997 Boxster several times with my truck with no problems with the original Moll battery - then I replaced it with a $60 AutoZone battery.
I put the old battery in my truck and drove to AutoZone for the swap. That was 2 years ago and now my truck needs a new battery. Time for the Boxster to return the favors.
I've been told by my mechanic that jumping a 996 is hard on the electronics so he instructed me to attach the jumper cables, let it charge for 15 minutes, detach the jumpers, and start it. It worked for me....
The battery in my C2 went dead over winter storage.
I put on the Sears 12v charger for 2 hours ( you may need more or less) and the battery was fine for 3 more years.
You can get a good semi- auto/automatic charger for $70 - 100.
BSC,
I hooked it up to my wife's MB and just let it run for about 15 minutes, revving the engine once in a while. Then I simply disconnected the cables on the 996 (making sure the two connectors didn't touch) and started her up. It took two tries though. My battery was really messed up, couldn't hold a charge.
I first tried a trickle charger, had this this plugged in for 24 hours. When this didn't work I tried the quick charging setting for 2 hours before I gave up and hooked up the jumpers.
The battery in my 996 Cab died 2 weeks ago in a parking lot 6 miles from the house. I had a friend drive his 04 Acura TL over and give me a jump. No problem. The next day I drove to Sears and bought a new battery. Again..no problem.
