Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bought this wireless charging pad that fit my 996 storage cubby perfectly. Drilled a small hole for the usb wire. There is a plastic pad that pops off. I made a small slit in it and put it back in and it covers most of the hole I drilled. Surprised people dont sell these pre-made. And yes I know I need to readjust the fitment of the radio. It needs to come out again anyway to fix a buzz I get in the speakers.(not from the charger)

POST 5Original post

That would be great if the input was 12 volts.

POST 6Original post

Thats neat - for my application with console delete I found switched power at the bottom of the console just ahead of the gear shift. I connected a cigarette lighter usb to that (not pretty!! ) and tucked everything under the console.

POST 7Original post

I just added the wireless charger mentioned in the first post. I used a 12v to 5v converter and it works great. I put the charger in the lower cubby. Link to converter: Amazon Amazon

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is wrong with 12v? I have it plugged into one of the USB ports on the back of my aliexpress headunit. Works great. I need to pull it out to adjust it, should I do it differently?

No, that's fine. I don't have an aftermarket radio with a USB port. Your USB port is putting out 5 Volts, not the 12 volts that is native to the car's electrical systems. That's why I needed the step down converter, but you don't.

POST 10Original post

Following up and wondering if anyone else is having intermittent issues with this? I used a 12v to 5v USB converter for the wireless charger. The charger will work fine for a whole trip. After parking for awhile it sometimes doesn't work, but it might work the next time I start the car. I use the same brand and type converter for my dash cam and that gets power from the same source (Telephone connector). The dash cam never has an issue. The wiring is fine as I've examined it multiple times. I'm going to try to isolate whether it's the converter or the charger itself, but in the meantime, I'm curious to see if anyone else is having an issue with the charger.

POST 11Original post

Check your connectors to see if there are any that is loose. I wired mine from the same power source (telephone connector) and it has been solid. I also wired the auto-blip to the same connector with no issues. I used the Rennline mount so the phone is visible.

I've checked the connections several times. If it works when I start the car, it will work the entire time I'm driving even if that's for many hours. If it doesn't work when I start the car, it won't work no matter what. I'm going to test each part individually

POST 13Original post

It appears to be the wireless charger itself. I plugged it into a USB charger in the cigar lighter port and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't The spec says it requires 2 amps and my converter puts out 3 amps. Reviews on Amazon show some people have faced the same issue. Unfortunately, most of them look like the same product but with different branding. I'll order a different one and make sure to read the reviews. Looks like there are no different ones. I'll have to live with this one for now.
