I find it easy to use everyday without any issues from law enforcement.
Leading evidence: 'Use everyday without any issues' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use everyday without any issues' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Everyone!
I know that you guys have probably covered this many times before but since I am a new Rennlist member, I was wondering if you all could help me with my next purchase?
I am definitely interested in buying a new muffler system for my '99 996 but I was wondering what this group's thoughts were on the various Muffler Bypass Pipes out there? What is everyone using and why? What about the sound?? I am NOT interested in having something that is overly obnoxious on the street but at the track, I would love a more aggressive sound at higher RPMs.
Suggestions on Mufflers vs. Bypass pipes, prices, places of purchase and any impressions after the purchase (sound, improved performance, etc.) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, and remember....
Rich,
You can do a search on this topic and get allot of information. My impression from the various reviews is that the bypass results in a very loud car. Whether you like it will depend on your taste and your local laws.
Someone talked about this recently. Said that it was so loud that there was no way he could drive it around town, ie neighborhoods, down the street. Said that even with the revs low, the noise was enough to catch teh attention of an officer. Try out PSE man, it is an awesome sound.
Bobby
A few weeks back I put a set of Fabspeed bypass pipes on just for kicks.
Simple statement: Way too loud. No freakin way!
Good for turning your 996 into a boat though
i was out at road atlanta and met a fellow 996'er with some sort of muffler bypass (fabspeed or ghl im not sure) but the sound at idle was quite nice, and when you reved the engine it made one helluva nice sound. it wasnt too loud, and on the track it didnt make too much noise either -
apparently theyre very easy to change out for track days though, so thats somethign to consider
Mufflers don't make much power, neither would a bypass. The whole thing need to be a system (headers, cats mufflers). Do your self a favor buy the Maxflow, GHL, or PSE. I hear the Ruf sound great, but too expensive.
I have the Fabspeed Bypass on my car. And yes, it is LOUD. I have to say, the vid clip on the Fabspeed site is close, but nothing like in person. I drive my car everyday, and I love it. (Gungho as Mike says!)
There will be no increase in performance, it's merely for sound (and a lot of it at that). I find it easy to use everyday without any issues from law enforcement. If I am seriously on it, then I'm sure it will get noticed. You do lose weight with the removal of your mufflers, (roughly 60lbs) and that was very noticible.
It is especially loud in the morning when I first start her up in the garage, but as soon as things open up, she quiets down after about 30 seconds. I wouldn't trade it for any other exhaust mod save for perhaps the PSE. Which I think, inlight of your concerns, would be very pleased with it.
If you download Blacknights video from our Socal drive, you'll hear my car quite well. It's the SY 03 Cup Aerokit II with KTYKTTY plates.
I'll second that thought on the Ruf, great sound, I miss mine. PSE sounds pretty good too. But they're both relatively expensive compared to other options.
