Suggestion

I'm not saying that 15k changes are right, but the "every 3000 miles" mentality is nuts with synthetic oil.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brother Porsche Lovers - My Targa Currently Has 6900 Miles (And I Loved Every Dam Moment) My Question Is - Should I Arrange For An Oil Change/Service Appt ? Or What Until My 15K miles ? Thus Far The Car Is Perfect, Everything Works perfectly. I really couldn't be happier, the Targa is the perfect 996 for me.

POST 2Original post

they recomend oil change at 15,000 or 1 year. I do mine at 5,000 cheap insurance to me. I would say 7,500 at least, but I'm cautious.

POST 3Original post

I would never wait 15,000 miles for an oil change, and especially the first one--when all the break-in particles are in there. With Mobil 1 I do it every 5,000 miles. First one after 2,500.

POST 4Original post

So why do Porsche recommend this? With BMWs, Benzes and Audis (that come with included maintenance) there's always the suspicion that they lengthen intervals to save themselves money, but with Porsche, they lose money with the long intervals, so what would be their motivation. If you really care about your oil quality, get an analysis done at Blackstone. It's only $15 and it'll give you a great idea as to longevity, wear, oil life etc. Much cheaper insurance than paying for 9qts of synthetic. I'm not saying that 15k changes are right, but the "every 3000 miles" mentality is nuts with synthetic oil. Do an oil analysis and you'll see. C.

POST 5Original post

Basically, because customers demand it. You can't sell a car with 5000mls service intervals if your competitors offer 15000mls. Cheers, Uwe
