I just bought this 2001 Cabriolet with 30K miles. The previous owner did not have the special socket for the security lug bolts. I found this tool on a Rennlist post, its a LTI Tools LT400-25 Fluted Dual Sided Twist Socket LTI Tools LT400-25 Fluted Dual Sided Twist Socket on amazon for $48. It worked great;only one required an additional pipe extension on the breaker bar to loosen the bolt. I did need a vice to undo the socket from the security bolt. It bites well. I suppose I could have found the correct socket but read that there were many different types, perhaps the Porsche dealership could have done it, but probably not for $50. Cheers Tim

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I took my security lugs off a long time ago, bought some titanium lug nuts and never looked back!
Throw those "security" lug bolts in the trash and buy some regular lug bolts. Nobody is going to steal your wheels, unless you live in a really dicey neighborhood. Better yet, buy some titanium lug bolts that don't rust.
I have taken off so many sets after buying a 996 that I even have a box of them now😀 anyone ever sell a set of these? is there a used market for them? Rich

REAL security would mix and match them on the car.
What's the go to replacement for the OE lug bolts? Looks like the original 996 bolts are N/A from Porsche and supersede to a 997 black bolt. What's the stock length and are any specific brand aftermarket bolts a good match with finish color (silver zinc) and the concave bolt head shape?
