Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im trying to figure out how to clean the haze (due to outgassing) off the inside of my headlights. There's access thru the high beam lamp hole and I was thinking about a distilled water and dawn solution swishing around with the headlight upside down ...and some rinses. Im not going to tear the lens off. That looks like a potential disaster.

POST 2Original post

Yeah, I wouldnt risk pulling the lens apart either, thats asking for trouble on these headlights. Your idea with a little distilled water and mild soap should work fine, just make sure youve got a way to completely dry it out afterward so you dont get condensation or water spots inside. Some guys use a bit of isopropyl since it evaporates quicker, so thats another option to think about.

POST 3Original post

If you can reach in through the bulb opening, wrapping a microfiber around something soft to gently wipe the haze off works pretty well. The outgassing film usually isnt too tough, so it comes off once you get to it. Just take your time with it and let the housing dry fully before sealing it back up.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I learned the projector is removable. That would provide a huge access hole

POST 5Original post

Do this at your own risk! WARNING - on the 996.2 lights, the chrome and silver paint is very sensitive to any touching so be very careful if you do this. Purchase some Neodymium Disk Magnets ($10 for 50 on amazon) that will fit through the high beam hole. Wrap a magnet in a microfibre cloth. I used tape to seal it. Dampen lightly the cloth. Turn light so lens is down. Drop the magnet covered in the cloth onto the interior of the lens. Use a magnet on the outside of the lens to move the interior magnet around - this will clean the lens. Remove the magnet when you are satisfied with it cleaned. AGAIN BE SUPER CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE CHROME AND SILVER PAINT . Ask me how I know.... I touched my chrome/silver and ended up taking the housing apart (I paid someone to do it), had it all painted black and ended up with this.

Great info/idea Thank you for the warning!

POST 8Original post

I opened one of mine this past weekend to replace the harness. Wasnt terrible but not fun either. Cleaning the old butyl sealant off was the time consumer. this is the view with the projector removed.
