Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

If you haven't already done this, next time have the Durametric connected and ready to use so when the warning is on you can query the instrument cluster (?) for any spoiler related errors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We have the Taco wing from the factory so it always amuses me that the spoiler light is enabled during the startup check. This afternoon over two startups the light stayed on for about 5 minutes. Usually it goes off shortly after the other test lamps. The Durametric doesn't show any codes. Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Based on my recent experience with an airbag warning light that remains on and with no airbag system error codes, my understanding is the warning lights are all powered by a common hot lead. To turn the light on the instrument cluster controller grounds the light thus of course completing the circuit. If a light stays on absent any error code it suggests the instrument cluster controller is unable to, having difficulty in, removing the ground. The "ground" is I believe controlled by an I/O pin at the instrument cluster controller. At startup this is low -- by default -- and this is why all the lights are on when you turn the key to the on position. After you start the engine then the instrument cluster sets all these pins to high thus extinguishing the lights. How you are trying to obtain the codes? The CEL won't be on as the spoiler's operation -- good or bad -- is not related to emissions, so just reading DTCs is not going to turn up any error codes that might arise from the spoiler. If you haven't already done this, next time have the Durametric connected and ready to use so when the warning is on you can query the instrument cluster (?) for any spoiler related errors. My thinking is there could be an error with the light being on but when the light does go off the error goes away along with the light.

POST 3Original post

I assume you are moving in that 5 minutes? The spoiler light comes on and only goes off after the car is moving forward at >5 mph. Mine stays on the whole time I'm backing out of the garage and into the street, then goes off after I start moving forward.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Macster, yes I was using my Durametric to check for codes. Clean as a whistle across the board. Joe, I don't recall it staying on until moving before maybe it acts different for the fixed wing? The second time the car had definitely not moved while it stayed on for an extended period of time. The first time could have been then same as it idled for a bit while I was letting someone drive it that is talking about getting on (I think I hooked him ). He is the one that pointed the light out and got me paying attention. Could be I've just gotten used to it and just tune it out any more. I'll watch it closer next time and see if it acts as you describe. Thanks guys.

I'm assuming the car in your avatar is the car you're referencing (doesn't appear to be an aerokit car). I have the rising spoiler as well, and my spoiler light turns off immediately with the other console lights.

POST 6Original post

+1 for DBJoe - mine stays on until I've begun moving forward in gear. Drove me nuts until I read about it in the manual (I think).
