Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Newbie here. Just wondering if many people here have done their own major engine work themselves? I have an engine that is out of the car due to excessive metal in the oil and a rattle. I've done lots of engine work before but nothing on a watercooled Porsche. I don't plan on rebuilding unless it needs it. Anyone try it?

Post this in the 996 Turbo section. I seem to recall one or two people there have been inside the Turbo engine. Or visit the 996 Turbo section of 6speedonline and post your question there. Everyone there (it seems) has rebuilt his Turbo's engine.

The problem is the thousands of dollars of special tools that are required... If you have a mill and a welder you can make most of them.
