Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked Sonnen before but their shipping rate is not very favorable to me.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Please excuse me while I vent a bit...
Most of you dont have a replaceable fuel filter, but my '99 does and I could not find any evidence that it had ever been replace. So I bought one from the dealer (only $20 or so, amazingly) and started to put it in. The task was a bit trickier than I expected and I managed to break a plastic water line retaining part (99610641552), fine I call the dealer. They tell me that this $6 part is only available via Germany and the only dealer in the US that has one is in Denver. SO I order it from Denver and now I wait. Really hate leaving projects half finished. Turns out the old filter has a date stamp on it: 3/98 ! Would this affect my mileage / performance (78k miles)?
I feel much better now.
Hey Steve, it's overdue for sure and the new filter should give some boost on performance. Our cars are all 10+ yrs now so the rubber and plastic can break even if you look at them the wrong way.
Turns out the Dealer in Denver actually did NOT have the part (99610641552) even though their database said they did. Looks like I have a 4 week wait ahead of me while it is shipped from Germany.
I checked Sonnen before but their shipping rate is not very favorable to me. Plus they charge tax to CA buyers. Can you get the online price but pick up in person (so you can save shipping)?
Their discounted price for the part is about $3.50 plus tax plus $5 for expedited shipping from Germany. hard to beat that. also convenient for me. yes. i pick up the parts in person, so no shipping change to me.
You cant see it without getting under the car and taking off one of the plastic covers.
Here is the DIY I followed.

The filter I took out had a date stamp on it of March 1998.
