Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

From the inside of the car you have to take apart the pedal to get to the cable I wouldn't recommend its a big pain to put back together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's the best way for me to describe it. It juts out from the bottom of the assembly and is somehow attached to some sort of plastic tube that runs underneath the carpet. What does it do? <concerning a '99 without e-gas>

POST 2Original post

If I recall, that is the accelerator cable. It works a lot like a bicycle brake cable - you press on the pedal and it pulls the cable. The cable going the other direction (up) goes to the cruise control module.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok that's sorta what I figured. So then how do you disconnect it? There's a lot of threads out there about removal of the pedal but none seem to explicitly say how to detach it from that tube.

POST 4Original post

This may be helpful. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ed-feel-2.html I had a hard time getting everything back together but eventually did it.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How did you disconnect that mechanism below the carpet? I can get the pedal assembly loose from the firewall but can't see how to detach that joint.

From the inside of the car you have to take apart the pedal to get to the cable I wouldn't recommend its a big pain to put back together. Or you can get to it by lifting up the rear of the car on the drivers side where the trans and motor meet you can see the assembly for the throttle cable (looks like a big black fuse).

POST 7Original post

Pcargo is correct. You have to take apart the pedal to get to the cable. Its a real pain to get it back together. Why do you need to take it out?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I don't need to take it out anymore. Originally I was pulling up the carpet but have now decided against it. I love Pelican's guides but sometimes they just gloss over very important things. Their carpet removal guide does just that concerning the removal of the accelerator pedal.
