Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My 02 had single row and I had it replaced with the LN double row when I had the RMS and Tip input shaft seal replaced.

Suggestion

The original bearing still looked good but since they were that far in, it made sense to change the IMSB.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone determined which serial number cars or engines are subject to this failure? or is it spread across the entire production run?

POST 2Original post

Single-row cars are much more likely - by as much as a factor of 10 - than dual-row cars to suffer an IMSB failure. Unfortunately, it's not possible to know which bearing you have without visually inspecting it - and at the point you're holding your dual-row bearing in your hand, it doesn't make sense to try to stuff it back in the hole.

POST 3Original post

Post a photo of your IMSB cover plate(with 3 screws). We "should " be able to tell you which it is IF it is the original or same parts fitted. If it is aftermarket, maybe not. But as Schnell said -when you are that far, why not replace it. The bearing is cheap enough.

POST 5Original post

https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...-mar-12-a.html Mine was in early 2001 and had the dual row, so I'll go out and make the extrodenary assumption that we can trust those VIN numbers. Anything before they start and you're going to have the dual row.

Go to this tech article here and look under "Which Bearing is Inside Your Engine?" It has some good info. -Luccia

Thanx all. Looks like I have some reading to do. BTW, my 2000 has 56600 miles on it, and I do drive in a somewhat spirited manner.
