Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed the tips on the bench and tightened the clamps just enough to hold in place for handling .

I just backed it up on my Gorilla ramps, same way I change the oil.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I got really lucky and found a fellow Rennlister selling his Fister mufflers, and only a couple hours away. Thanks

!! Saved a bunch of time and money from sending to CA from SC. I've been wanting to do this since I got the car about 6 months ago. They sound great, I love them. I'm running stock headers and cats. I have the HPS resonator delete and intake pipe. I just wanted to say that anyone contemplating doing it yourself, do it. It's really easy. I do not have a lift and did not need to remove the bumper. I just backed it up on my Gorilla ramps, same way I change the oil. Only took me a few hours. Granted, my car is not rusty and no bolts broke off; if you have a rusty underside, you may have more trouble. I spent more time getting the brackets and tips off the old mufflers than removing and installing the new mufflers.
Uh oh, yeah, my tip clamps broke on removal so I had to order two new clamps, they are supposedly coming today, hope I don't have a problem installing them with the mufflers already on??
Do you feel like they're still quiet enough to not pester my neighbors? I definitely want more noise from my 996, but I also don't want to attract too much attention when I'm casually driving into and out of my neighborhood...
Yes, I live in a neighborhood with a lot of nosy, picky neighbors so I know what you mean. As long as you keep it under 3k RPM with light throttle, its not much louder than stock, if at all. It makes a quick little rumble at startup, but it doesnt get loud until you get the revs up with heavy throttle. So you can kind of control the noise.
Glad they worked out for you . And good job of removal/replacement with the bumper on ! I installed the tips on the bench and tightened the clamps just enough to hold in place for handling . I clocked the clamps so the nut is in alignment with the inner fender . That way a long extension with socket slides right by between muffler body and inner fender for final adjustment tightening . Good luck .
I got the new clamps yesterday and got the tips put on. But as someone else said, getting the tips on was the hardest part! Especially once the mufflers are already installed! I was too eager to get the mufflers on and hear them to wait for new tip clamps!
I heard recently that Fister did not have any core units to modify, so you have to send yours in and wait. But, I didnt confirm this, so Im not sure of that.
They did mine about 15 years ago. Shipped from the east coast, I don't remember waiting too long to get them back. I was kind of dumb, though. I bought the stock mufflers from someone in this group and had them shipped to my house. I should have had them shipped directly to Fister. That would have saved me some money on shipping and would have been a faster turnaround. Live and learn.
