Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ah yes ... but here in my 99 996 it's delightful! Wow! Just got back from a head to head tire competition. Certainly not a perfectly calibrated test, but I thought I'd share the experience anyway. My 01 {summer car/garage queen really} has S03's on and my 99 {work horse/track car} has Blizzaks on 17" rims. We had a few snow squalls this morning and I live on a hill, so I just had to see how big the difference was. I took the 99 and stopped half way down the hill {bit of ABS was needed, but not bad, about the same as my truck}. Then I put it in reverse and tried to get back up. Not a problem. Went to bottom of hill and came up, stopped half way, then tried to get started back up. No problem, and as I had expected, easier then getting it started in reverse up the same hill. Now for the 01 with it's SO3's. Oh boy. I tried to stop half way down the hill, but that was a dream! The ABS just screamed as the car gave little hint of slowing down. In fact I started to worry that I was going to pop out at the bottom of the hill into on-coming traffic. I had to use the shoulder full of gravel to help me stop at the bottom. I now focused on getting it back up the hill. It made it, but barely. No way I could have started like the 99 did from half way up.

POST 2Original post

Great post! I'd like to show this to all of the people with various AWD cars that feel snow tires are a waste of money.

POST 4Original post

Pete, Nice to see this real world test that proves those of us with snow tires are not crazy
