This is not a probability of success.

To check prior stressing of the engine, have a dealer hook the car up to their computer and check the car's computer log of overrevs.

As far as options, I would recommend heated seats and xenon(Litronics).

basically, you're covered for any repair, except wear and tear items, for two years.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi ALL
I am new to the board,so i wanted to say hi, and...there is always an and.I wanted some advise on purchasing my first porsche. I am looking for a 1999- 2001 C2 or C4 cab. What should i look for when buying this car, I have heard that some of the 99's have problems with bad piston sleaves coating.I hope to get a car with all of the right options but here in Canada porsches are Rare....very rare in fact, i know i will settle on the color. With your knowledge in these cars....what should i look for? What kind of $$ should one pay?? I know this question is wide open , but any help you may have would be great......
If a 1999 car has had all the TSBs taken car of and it's still in good working order there should be no problems with purchasing it. If you do decide to purchase a 1999 car I would advise you to buy it from a dealer and not a private seller. However if you can find a good deal on a 2000+ car I would strongly recommend it. 2000+ cars have a noticeable improvemnt on quality in general espically in the interior.
Weather you want a coupe or a cab that is a personal choice. I live in London and we get 2 month of good weather every year and a Cab isn't worth it for me.
i'm a huge fan of porsche AWD so i always suggest a C4. i wouldn't pay more than 45 for a C2 cab or 50 for a C4 cab unless it has a ton of options on it. prices are really low these days!
Kilgrt,
Go for the newest car you can afford, since that will mean the greatest balance of warranty. Get a carfax, get a PPI (porsche inspection)...s/b about 200 USD. If you a decent amount left on the warr, and the PPI and carfax check out, there is prob not a whole heck of a lot more you can do as far as checking it out. The rest is all personal pref, but if you live in Canada, the C4 is your best bet....
I'm with teflon...'huge fan of porsche AWD'...
Kilgrt,
I agree with these guys. Buy a C4, you'll need where you are. It also comes with PSM, short for Porsche Stability Management or "Please Save ME". I think it's a $1500 option on a C2.
Buy a Porsche certified car, you get an additional two year warranty with the car. basically, you're covered for any repair, except wear and tear items, for two years. I wouldn't buy a car any other way!
As far as options, I would recommend heated seats and xenon(Litronics). It's more a matter of preference than anything.
Most importantly, be patient!! The car you want is out there. Keep looking until you find the right one for you.
Happy Hunting, Pat
PS Is it easy to buy a US car and import it into Canada?
PSM for sure! A hardtop would be nice. To check prior stressing of the engine, have a dealer hook the car up to their computer and check the car's computer log of overrevs.
Do your homework on price, buy from a dealer, buy certified, get a C4, don't settle on color, if you can afford it get a 2000 or newer model, the car is out there, it will appear.
Good luck and welcome!
