Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My main goal is to figure out which tools I really need instead of buying a huge "set" where I might only use 25% of the tools.

Suggestion

in general i use my snap on tools more often than the craftsman, especially if i'm going at a rusted bolt or other tough item.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For those of you who work on your car at home and at the track which tools do you think are essential for these applications? The more detailed the better but generalities are ok. Here are some specific questions: 1. Instead of going with the big toolbox stacked on top of the rolling box I am thinking that TWO rolling boxes would be better? This way you have two mobil boxes that can be moved around the garage or rolled into a trailer plus a flat surface. 2. If you use a trailer, do you have two sets of tools or do you load your regular toolbox in the trailer? 3. Is Snap-on worth the extra $ over Craftsman. Pros & Cons of each. My main goal is to figure out which tools I really need instead of buying a huge "set" where I might only use 25% of the tools. TIA

POST 2Original post

I've had Craftsman sockets break but never had a Snap On tool break.

POST 3Original post

i have both craftsman and snap on, plus some others, and i like the craftsman because their guarantee is bullet proof. i've brought in wrenches and screwdrivers that obviously had been beaten to hell and the people at sears gave me brand new ones without even blinking. but as mjones said, i've never had a snap on break. but they cost a whole lot more. in general i use my snap on tools more often than the craftsman, especially if i'm going at a rusted bolt or other tough item. personally i have three tool boxes. one is exclusively for sockets and socket wrenches. the second has screwdrivers, allen wrenches, open enders, all sorts of pliers, and metal cold chisels in it. the third is a plastic lightweight box with all of my miscellaneous stuff like ball peen hammers, hacksaw, etc.
