well, my 99 996 has been sittin for a few weeks, and now the car won't crank. Other than the dealer, where is a good place to get a battery. all my local car shops have on that will work, but is not the same size, and i don't think it will secure correctly. Art

Sears carries a battery that will fit and works well. I would "recharge" it at least once to make sure you really need a new battery. The one in my 99 would go done after about two weeks of no operation, never figured out why.

I have the Sears battery and it is slightly smaller but the battery compartment adapts to the smaller battery. My personal opinion is that I just change the battery every three years regardless of any indication of need. Saves the hassle when it does break down. You can put it in yourself in five minutes. I put in an optima red top in my 99 C4 recently. The OEM battery goes bad out of nowhere in about 3-4 years so you probably need a new battery. The optima battery needs to be specially mounted. Do a search in the forums. I put mine in with no problems and didn't even need to get a new cable. Bobby
