I know others have installed I-Pods or other portable players using the Aux input adapter from Becker {which I now have}, but I don't like the idea of it clunking around in the car as I drive.

I only got a 10gig ipod (1500 songs), but all in, including the wire from Becker it was less than $320...installation was a breeze, and I can use my ipod outside of my car as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The plan was to install the Phatbox in my 99. I now have the CDR-220 and I was planning on going with the Phatbox, but i'm getting cold feet. I think it is overpriced! I know others have installed I-Pods or other portable players using the Aux input adapter from Becker {which I now have}, but I don't like the idea of it clunking around in the car as I drive. So ... seems like the Phatbox is the only way to go for securely mounted player. {I also like that it plays .flac files!} Just wanted to see how current Phatbox owners feel about their purchase. Thanks in Advance for the feedback! -pete

POST 2Original post

As an extension to Pete's question: Is it still not compatible with PCM1?

POST 3Original post

pete, I have an Ipod and LOVE IT! I have the non-smoker kit in my car, and the Ipod fit perfectly in the tray...no clunking or sliding around corners, etc. I only got a 10gig ipod (1500 songs), but all in, including the wire from Becker it was less than $320...installation was a breeze, and I can use my ipod outside of my car as well. The only downside with the Ipod over the phatbox is that the ipod needs to be recharged...but it has good battery life... leon, sorry no idea about pcm compatability...

POST 4Original post

Phatbox is kickass - but I have had a few software glitches that make it hard to retrieve songs (starts navigating by itself). Otherwise it's amazing - sounds great, has something like 150 full CDs on it, easy to use, and saves me from having to select just the 6 CDs I want to hear while I'm driving...
