This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello, considering purchase of '99/'00 C2 or C4. This would be my first Porsche. Therefore, would be very greatful for any advice on model selectioin (year/C2/C4) and any "wear items" to be on the look out for. Thanks in advance.
I agree with gretch...this has been rehashed many times....but....
You first need to decide yourself if you want 2wd v AWD....people have differing opinions, so test drive them both and you decide. Factors to consider tho are: Will you track it? Is it a daily driver? Will you ever use it in bad weather, especially snow?
Once you've picked a drivetrain...go for an '00, may still have some warranty left, 99's had some first run bugs/defects...get a PPI (Porsche inspection)...there is a whole list of TSBs/recalls...so check that the car has had its 'shots' so to speak...and get a carfax which will tell you where it was serviced, then call that dealer and find out what they have to say about the car...
Then enjoy the hell out of it, and post some pics here (its like porsche addict ****
)
Wow! Thanks for the quick response and statement of the obvious. Perhaps I have already been there and done that. I figure since it was my first post on this forum I should receive the standard..."have you tried the search function?"
Thanks to anyone willing to share their experience. Cheers.
mim3, you are in michigan and this is your first P car, i would get C4. 996 AWD has very little understeer compared to other AWD's b/c less than 10% of power goes to front wheels unless you are in trouble. you can throttle steer is pretty easily although the car isn't as "alive" or "twitch" (which ever adjective you like) as the C2. steering feels different too. you should drive both and see what you like.
On C2 vs C4 you really can't objectively say one is better than the other. But once you drive them both, you should know which is a better fit for you and what you want from this car. As far as year, newer the better of course. 00/01 have improvements over 99. 02/03/04 have improvements over 00/01.
