I'm pretty disappointed that it won't cover my clutch pedal which has a squeaky/malfunctioning spring $300, my windows which need to be adjusted because they leak air $440, my check engine light because of a malfunctioning mas $300, and other items that I can't remember.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust because they leak air $440, my' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust because they leak air $440, my' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. They replaced the front windshield seal at no cost to me.

In theory I agree with you that dealers usually charge a significant overhead on used (and new!) cars.

I just used for the first time this month, it covered a lot of repairs.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have recommendations or input on what to look for when considering an aftermarket (not from Porsche) warranty policy for a '99 996?
Sounds like $2k-$3k can buy a policy and am curious if anyone has experience with these.
I bought a warranty from repair masters and it doesn't cover shxt. I'm pretty disappointed that it won't cover my clutch pedal which has a squeaky/malfunctioning spring $300, my windows which need to be adjusted because they leak air $440, my check engine light because of a malfunctioning mas $300, and other items that I can't remember. FYI I have their fully loaded package with every option which cost over $3k.
My experience has not been great as well. I did not make any claim yet, but there is nothing to claim against anyway. I bought from warrantygold after research and their underwriter went belly up.
My suggestion is to talk to your service manager and find warranty company that will be there Friday, like GE
Aftermarket warranty are a complete joke in my opinion as well!!
I have onesource autowarranty.. They didn't cover my top motor because they said I had a aftermarket alarm.. ok BS!! Then the MAS air flow sensor goes out as usual on these.. the don't cover that... they said you didn't buy the emissions warranty.. WTF!!! why didn't you tell me about it.. $150 for emissions warranty.. $500 for MAS sensor!!! Bastards!!!so far they haven't covered sh*&!
And I'm one of the (un)lucky ones who bought WarrantyGold.

Some dealers have plans in place that are damn nice, for a damn nice price, but be sure they are transportable.
Tread very carefully on this one.
I had gotten an extended warranty on my 99 996. Biggest waste of money I experienced with that car. Not b/c the company did not honor the warranty, but b/c I never had cause to make a claim.
Eric: i am one of the unlucky warranty gold guys. I am still making payments 3 left on my contract. Just wondered what you are doing. i have been told that if i cancel i would receive approx 100.00 and have already paid 1100.00. Also by canceling i would forfeit any chance of salvaging anything when the lawsuit gets settled. To make a long story short i don't know whether it is worth throwing another 300.00 into this policy.
i just bought the easycare warranty (apco) which was sold through the porsche dealer. they have run lots of claims through apco without problems (so they say). apco is owned by ford motor co. and supposedly is a solid co.
i view extended warranty as cheap insurance against major failures like my recent gearbox replacement. the policy cost $2,900 for an add'l 25k miles/3-yr coverage w/ a $200 deductable.
Is there any way that you can get the actual Porsche extended warranty rather than going to an aftermarket company? I have a 1999 C4 996, and I got the Porsche-certified extended warranty (2 years or 100K miles, whichever comes first), and I've been thrilled with it already. I've more than made up for the cost of this warranty given the repairs that have been done under warranty in the last couple of months. For example...
* The buttons on my radio were peeling, so I brought the car in to have the buttons replaced. They gave me an entirely new radio at no cost to me.
* My Litronics headlight wasn't adjusted properly. They gave me an entirely new housing and now the headlight is perfect.
* I had a slight rattling noise in the front of my car. They replaced the front windshield seal at no cost to me.
* My backup lights suddenly stopped working. They fixed the problem at no cost.
So I'm a very happy customer of Porsche's certified extended warranty program.
Did you buy your 996 from a Porsche dealer? I have heard that's the only way to get the Porsche warranty.
I'm in the market to buy a '99 996, and I've found prices are MUCH better ($5k-$8k less) from a private party or from a non-Porsche dealer. So, I'm trying to avoid buying from a Porsche dealer and hence thought that would leave me only with aftermarket, non-Porsche providers.
porsche now has a program ("porsche approved") whereby they provide a "limited" warranty on cars purchased through porsche dealers for up to 100,000 miles and a maximum of 6 years from the original in-service date. it's probably worth paying $3-4k more for a car from a dealer, as the car has been inspected and certified and is covered by this warranty, IMHO (from a guy who bought his car from a highline auction...).
Yes, I bought my car from a Porsche dealer. But it started by being listed with a non-Porsche dealer who was advertising the car on eBay. When the car didn't sell first time around on eBay, I contacted this non-Porsche dealer about buying my car, explaining that I wanted the Porsche-certified warranty. Lucky for me, the non-Porsche dealer was affiliated with a Porsche dealer (same umbrella ownership). So I was able to get them to essentially sell my car to their Porsche dealership, from which I could then buy the car with the Porsche-certified warranty.
In theory I agree with you that dealers usually charge a significant overhead on used (and new!) cars. But I feel like I got a really decent deal, especially since I was able to get the "real" warranty, which was very important to me.
honestly I researched them up and down and basically they all seemed to amount to the same thing, worthless for anything less than a catostrophic problem which is unlikely. I would keep the moeny and if something goes aray then fix it then, it will be better than Pissing the money away and then having to foot the bill to boot.
Wow, lots of negativity about warranty folks. I have First Assured extended warranty. I can't speak as to its cost because I negociated it as part of the purchase price of my 99 996. I just used for the first time this month, it covered a lot of repairs. Leaking oil protection tubes around the spark plugs and the labor=$390, rear toe arm links and bushings plus labor= $440. Add tax and other crap, my warranty covered $830 bucks.
Not bad, my warranty is paying me back, and I don't have to worry about P-Car shops that charge $85+ per labor hour. Your also need a shop with someone who can "explain" things the right way to the warranty people.
So far my experiece has been "positive".
my policy is cancellable at anytime for any reason. they refund on a pro-rata basis. if they screw with me on the first claim, i can nix the agreement and recoup most of my money. i do agree with you in principle, but p-cars cost stupid-money when you do have repairs...or you can "roll the dice."
