I just replaced the MAF and that make the check engine light go off...I was just worried that the engine might not be getting the right air flow.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone notice a slight hesitation in the Tiptronic when the engine is cold? I live in Wisconsin and it is starting to get in the 30's and I am noticing it...specifically in second gear and reverse. I just thought I would check with everyone. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I know that in my other cars, the trans computer makes the trans stay in gear longer to get the revs up a little higher to get the car warm quicker. is that a possiblity??? Bob

POST 3Original post

yes its Normal..try to warm up for 3 mins thats will do

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So let the 996 sit warming up for 3 minutes, or drive it easy for 3 minutes? I have read the threads on warming up and it seemed the consensus was that cars did not need it. Let me know. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

No, just drive off and don't worry. Idling a cold engine leads to increased wear. What happens is this: The mixture for cold idle is very rich. Because the cylinder walls are still cold, fuel condenses on the cylinder walls. This fuel dilutes the oil and leads to increase wear of the cylinder and piston rings. This is particularly a problem at the lower dead centre, because the cylinder walls there take quite a while to warm up. If you let the car idle, there is very little load on the engine. Hence it produces very little heat and it takes a long time for the cylinders to warm up. If you drive off straight away, there is more load on the engine, more heat is produced and the engine warms up faster. Cheers, Uwe

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks!!!! But is the hesitation in 2nd when cold normal or should I take the car in? I just replaced the MAF and that make the check engine light go off...I was just worried that the engine might not be getting the right air flow. Thanks again.

POST 7Original post

Drive slow for several mins. Porsche manual suggests start and drive, and consensus is 45 sec to get oil loosened

POST 8Original post

You should try driving ANY automatic in the early morning after a cold night in Anchorage.....

POST 9Original post

The automatic in our Audi A6 is exactly the same. Always seemed normal to me. AS
