Make sure though, that you're not running a too heavy oil, or that you don't have any oil leaks (the "plus" uses oil pressure to "activate"), as these conditions may impact "plus" operation.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have noticed several times now that there is an occasional "stutter" at around 3000rpm (or a smidgen under). It has been most apparent when cruising at a steady speed, only lasts a split second. Has this happened to anyone else, and are there any theories? Car has done this from new. I noticed some discussion about the varioram effect at around 3200rpm - but this definitely happens around 2900-3000rpm. Car is a 6speed 03 C2 coupe. Thanks, wino

POST 2Original post

Wino, My 6 speed '03 C2 Coupe does the same thing. You may have read my posts on this and other forums. Porsche's position is that it's normal, which simply means that Porsche screwed up in its enginering or manufacturing and has decided to deny the problem exists, thereby making everyhting perfect. Right? Wrong. It reminds me of the behavior of some of our politicians in the U.S. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Even Hillary believed it for a while. Hopefully Porsche will realize sooner than later the importance of standing behind their products. If you need help barraging them with letters I'd be happy to participate.

POST 3Original post

Same thing happens on mine. I noticed it within the first couple hundred miles more than once. So it's definitely noticeable.

POST 4Original post

We all have it. It's the variocam. It's the moment that the camshaft moves to prepare for a different overlap at higher power outputs. It bothered me at first but now I'm used to it and I actually use it as a check for driving too fast, it just happens around 75 in 6th

POST 5Original post

Hmm. Yes, it could be the variocam, but the switchover should have no "stutter" to it - it should be a smooth, but noticeble "shift" in power delivery. The only way there can be a "hiccup" in the switch in valve lift is if you back off of the throttle just after crossing the point. If you're engine is "stuttering", something is wrong, and your dealer should fix it. Make sure though, that you're not running a too heavy oil, or that you don't have any oil leaks (the "plus" uses oil pressure to "activate"), as these conditions may impact "plus" operation. I'd raise he*** with the dealer, myself. J

POST 6Original post

No stutter here. Just a noticeable cam shift JM

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe stutter is the wrong way to describe it - let's say I am cruising around 3000rpm (highway driving) at steady throttle, then there will be split second "hiccup". I don't know if this is the change in cam everyone is referring to.

POST 8Original post

I experience a noticeable stutter at around 2,800 rpm followed by the surge at around 3,200 rpm many of us have described. I've had my car in to the dealer 3 times to address this issue, and they have told me each time that it is normal. I belive the 3,200 rpm surge is the camshift. The 2,800 rpm stutter I can not understand and can not live with. Winovin, I believe the cars are not well sorted. What's the solution?
