Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!!!!!!!!! Just got my car back from the dealer after having the porsche sports exhaust installed. I had it done with the electronic switch. This exhaust is LOUD! It is absolutely amazing how the switch can turn the sweet sweet roar into utter silence. I can't believe how a little switch on the dash can bring so much joy! 996'ers u won't be disapointed... the PSE will drown out any squeaks or rattles... or tire / road noise. it's even better when i put the roof down and roar through a tunnel!!! Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

To date, I think I have used the "OFF" mode three times - the first time was immediately after I had the switch installed and I wanted to make sure it worked, and the two other times were when I was asked "what is this button for?".

Congratulations Chucksta! What model year is your Pcar?
Chucksta If you don't mind me asking how much more did the install cost with the electronics installed? Congrats also!
Congrats--and enjoy!! PSE is the best!!!
MY2003 996 cabriolet it was an extra $A200 to get the electronic switch installed... but it maybe different in the USA.. i'm in Australia and the cops here don't appreciate "good" noise.. if there is such a thing.. hehe
good sounds aren't called noise
Cool. Congrats. I take it your in Sydney and the tunnel you mention is off the bridge on the North Shore. I have a Fabspeed and I love taking it through the Liverpool tunnel. With top off I can't even hear my stereo. Sweet music.
Next, you should do the hack so it stays open at all speeds, rather than closing at 35-37 mph. Sounds much better that way.
He paid the extra $A200 for the switch. He now has the option to turn it on or off. What's the point in the hack?
There is an automatic bypass controlled by the computer (regardless of whether he switches on or off the loud exhaust) that activates somewhere in the 30-50 mph range (66 - 110 km/h range) that reverts one to the quieter mode. The hack merely removes this override.
Got yer. So basically, if I read you correctly, the sweet musak is never there until you get to say 30MPH? The hack is a must!
Its the other way around. Its loud until about 30 mph at which point it reverts to quiet. On my car, you could hear it go quiet at about 32mph. With the hack, it just keeps singing regardless of speed.
I ordered my 02 C4S with PSE, however, the switch was not available until late 02 and then became std. with the PSE option on 2003 builds. This past spring, I had the dealer install the switch with the "ON" mode representing "loud all the time" (i.e., no cut-out, ever) and the "OFF" mode representing "quiet all the time". I never could rationalize the need for a speed-actuated cut-out mode. You either want to hear it, or you are trying to be inconspicuous/respectful. To date, I think I have used the "OFF" mode three times - the first time was immediately after I had the switch installed and I wanted to make sure it worked, and the two other times were when I was asked "what is this button for?".

T Hendricks, The rationale for the speed actuated cut-out is so that it meets noise regulations. If the PSE is on throughout the speed range, it breaches some noise regulations, and could not be officially offered by Porsche.
