Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

It's a whole bundle of wires that run from the DME (engine control computer) out to all of the devices and sensors that communicate with the DME.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can anyone tell me what a DME cable is and where to get one? Thanks

POST 2Original post

if you don't know what it is, why do you need one?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was told it could be the problem for my check engine light and was curious as to what it is...any constructive advice?

POST 4Original post

The only problem I've seen with the cable is when the connector comes loose. Just retighten it.

POST 5Original post

Cable is probably a bad description, as this thing is really a harness. It's a whole bundle of wires that run from the DME (engine control computer) out to all of the devices and sensors that communicate with the DME. Replacing this cable is definitely not a DIY activity. As Loren says, you can check the connection to the DME pretty easily. Fold down the rear seats and remove the carpet panel that covers the rear shelf behind the seats. The Bosch DME module is inside an aluminum box that is attached under the rear shelf. You can probably check the tightness of the connector without removing the DME module from the rear shelf. Karl
