It was given in conjunction with a speeding ticket and was tossed by the judge when I produced a photo of the plate installed on the car (for the 5 minutes it took to take the picture).

The dealer had used long enough screws for the license plates themselves that the screws had gone through the porsche mounting plate and dug holes into the bumper.

Of course, I negotiated all this before writing the check for the car, so I had a little more leverage.

We always tell the dealer to leave off the front plate, in the rear that shouldnt of happened, the screws are usually not long at all, I just noticed how short they were when I removed the plates on the Cab when it was sold approx 3 weeks ago, they might have used different screws but I dont see why, sounds weird.

This doesn't bother me too much in the back, but in the front if I sell the car to someone who doesn't use a front plate, then he's going to have to get the bumper repaired and repainted.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yesterday being a nice day I seriously washed and waxed my car for the first time.
I took of the the front and rear license plates and the plastic mounting plates (that say porsche on them) and I noticed something disturbing.
The dealer had used long enough screws for the license plates themselves that the screws had gone through the porsche mounting plate and dug holes into the bumper. This is on both the front and rear bumper.
This doesn't bother me too much in the back, but in the front if I sell the car to someone who doesn't use a front plate, then he's going to have to get the bumper repaired and repainted. It sort of defeats the purpose of that nice mounting arrangment porsche has put in.
What do you guys think I should do? Does anyone else have this problem? The car is two weeks old.

I had an issue on a new BMW where the dealer drilled the front bumper to mount the front plate even after I repeated told them not to. They paid to have the front bumper repaired and repainted. It was about a $400 job. Of course, I negotiated all this before writing the check for the car, so I had a little more leverage. However, you can try to get the dealer to repair the front bumper since the prep guys clearly didn't use the proper screws.

Think about the repair before you do it. I had the exact same problem with my dealer. Nope, they didn't fix it. Now I have an Aerokit bumper, which I got from Gert. They are on sale, a steal if you ask me. E-mail gert and ask for details. Do you need front plates in VA?
VA does require front plates by law. I've run without them for 20 years and gotten one ticket. It was given in conjunction with a speeding ticket and was tossed by the judge when I produced a photo of the plate installed on the car (for the 5 minutes it took to take the picture). Of course, the speeding ticket was another issue
Karl
Yeah, I agree with Karl. You're supposed to have them, but nobody seems to care much. I even got a speeding ticket once, and in the process the cops (there were two in the car) walked around my 911 and didn't say a thing about the missing front tag!
=Carlos=
the dealer should repair that for you. it's their fault your bumper is damaged. i'd go talk to the sales manager about it. i don't think it matters that you already bought the car since they're going to want your future business too.
Dealer should repair because it is their error. Maybe have them fill in the holes all together when they repaint it. I filled my holes in and it really makes the front of the car look 10x better. My friend just bought a new cadillac and when he bought it home, noticed a scratch on the door. The dealer repainted it for free as expected.
