Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

antifreeze should also be replaced based on years, NOT miles, since the additives are used up even if the car is just sitting in the garage.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just bought this 1 gallon jug from my Porsche dealer. It's not even the same color as what's in my C4S. I was buying several things so didn't notice the price until I got home. $36.95 for 1 gallon of coolant that is marketed by VW/Audi? I'm taking this back and getting a qt. from the internet. Dealer said that in Florida this is the only way to buy it...

POST 2Original post

C4S...996... After 12 years, over 100k miles, I'm finally changing out my OEM anti-freeze/coolant in my 92 LS400. Only because it's "murky", it's still at -18 degrees F. So why are you buying "coolant" for a C4S??

POST 3Original post

That looks different than the special porsche stuff I used.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

because i'd hate to be far away from "civilization" and need some....with all of the complaints of leaking coolant and the fact that two times i've smelled coolant after hard drives and my reservoir has lost a little since new, i figure it's better to be safe than sorry. reason enough?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

tool pants, thanks for the link....although your attached picture only mudded the coolant. ha ha

POST 7Original post

Guess I should have said they sold you the pink Audi stuff instead of the green Porsche stuff. Might be the same for all I know except fot the dye.

POST 8Original post

I bought the same stuff for my shark but with a blue triangle that says all-season. I paid 17.00 and thought i had been ripped! dealers. Tom 1985 928s2 euro

POST 9Original post

Hi, it is in fact quite important to put in the same antifreeze, even more so if you are just topping up. In short, it's got to do with the fact that some are ethylene glycol based and some propylene glycol based. They are, because of the additives used in each of them, not necessarily compatible. This is especially an issue with extended life antifreeze. Cheers, Uwe

POST 10Original post

i think the pink stuff is the newer extended life antifreeze, and green is the shorter life stuff that's been around for years. they're definitely NOT compatible. i'm not sure if every company is using this color standard, or if it's true outside of the US. i think some people posting here have the mistaken impression that just because your car isn't overheating your antifreeze is ok. anitfreeze contains additives that help prevent the rot of your coolant system from the inside out. the longer it's in your car, the less additives are left. it's just like motor oil in this respect. so you can either pay now to have your coolant system flushed and antifreeze replaced, or pay later to have your radiator and other coolant system components replaced. antifreeze should also be replaced based on years, NOT miles, since the additives are used up even if the car is just sitting in the garage. in this respect, it's different than motor oil.

POST 11Original post

I paid $7.50/Liter for actual Porsche coolant from my dealer, looks like you were really ripped off. My coolant also had a red color when I drained it from the radiators.

POST 12Original post

So my SA explained to me that the coolant in my 03 C2 is good for life. He said it's extremely unlikely I would have to replace it. So is that not true?
