Thaks for the info,idle is lumpy,after coming to a stop the idle "hunts" for 10sec (650-800)then is stable at 800rpm /900 with a/c on.Ive had the headers off and cleaned out the manifold,and also the air (from air pump)holes cleaned out (which were clogged) aslo changed cam position sensors

My 1999,996 has a rough idle and low rpm(800-850) my dealer says it may be a bad DME but I would have to buy a new one to test his theory,plus min of 4hrs labour to trouble shoot,anybody know where I can get the dme tested or get a rebulit one,any ideas please!!!

Hi, What exactly do you mean by low? 820 rpm ist correct if the A/C is switched on, and 700 rpm if the A/C is off. How rough is rough? Is it just lumpy or does it go up and down? If it is just lumpy, what did he check? In a lot of cases, it is just deposits on the intake valves, particularly if the car is being driven in urban traffic and at low revs. Sometimes the actuators that change the intake timing to "early" don't work, or it could be the MAF, or just some false air. That's all but a few ideas. Just wondering if all that's been checked before he wants to change the DME at your expense. Cheers, Uwe
