Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have used an acid wash on concrete prior to painting which strips the concrete of oils and etches the surface for better paint adhesion.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of oil stains on concrete? I plan on using a sealer after it's clean. any recommendations? This site is wonderful, I've learned so much. Thanks!! Pat

POST 2Original post

goto sears and look for oil stain remover. or paint over

POST 3Original post

I powerwashed mine. A friend used a concrete prep which was acidic.

POST 4Original post

Basic chemisty also says that dish washing liquid (the one you use in the sink) will break down oil. Scrub washing liquid into the floor leave it for an hour or so then presure wash it. While presure washing alone works well it will still leave a discolored residue.

POST 5Original post

I have used an acid wash on concrete prior to painting which strips the concrete of oils and etches the surface for better paint adhesion. It's available from most hardware store paint dept. and I believe is muriatic acid based.

POST 7Original post

Is the oil new? If so, I use cat litter and it seems to soak up oil drips very well (the clay type). Baby powder may work as well at Eric mentions above. Jeff

POST 8Original post

Leave this to the concrete experts... Concrete is a porous material and thus it is practicalyl impossible to remove the stains that infiltrate inside it.. You can avoid oil stains by protecting the concrete floor with epoxy paint.. Another way of doing it is to find you nearest Sika, Feb or Fosroc dealer and get liquid floor hardener.. The liquid finds its way into the concrete pores and seals them. Thank you! Wael *civil engineer, worst job on earth, but i love it!*

Thanks guys!! I try them all and report back. I hope I still have concrete left when I'm done. Just Kidding.
