Reported cause
I took mine to the mechanic yesterday and he confirmed it was the throwout bearing.
Leading evidence: 'throwout bearing' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'throwout bearing' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check spark plug torque and look' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I checked the spark plugs and they were tight thinking I may replace the gaskets between the cats and headers as the only things that were changed before I discovered this noise was new top gear 200 cell cats and spark plugs/coil packs.

Suggestion
Id start simple like check spark plug torque and look for any exhaust leaks before pulling parts apart.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, my relatively new to me high mileage (128k) 99 c2 has a chirp when warm. Its on the passenger side near the headers. Im thinking based on searches that its possibly a loose spark plug or exhaust gasket. Any ideas before I start going at stuff would be appreciated!
thanks!

I hear a chirp and also a faint tick at the same time, suggesting it could be a loose plug or a tiny exhaust leak. Piston slap would be a similar cadence, but a different tone.
was this ever solved? I have this same noise, only once the engine is warmed up. Its been driving me nuts. I checked the spark plugs and they were tight thinking I may replace the gaskets between the cats and headers as the only things that were changed before I discovered this noise was new top gear 200 cell cats and spark plugs/coil packs. I also had the IMs solution installed but I dont think that would be related to this noise.
any opinions on the metal sandwich gaskets that came with the cats vs the factory metal gaskets?
A chirp like that on a 99 C2, especially warm and near the headers, is often one of a few usual suspects. Loose spark plugs are definitely a common culprit, sometimes just a tiny bit of play will make that metallic chirp as the engine heats and parts expand. Exhaust gaskets can do it too, especially if theyre starting to leak at the header or downpipe flanges.
Id also keep an ear out for any pulley or belt noise on that side, though less common, a highpitched chirp can come from a tensioner or accessory bearing once the engines warmed up. Id start simple like check spark plug torque and look for any exhaust leaks before pulling parts apart. That usually saves a lot of unnecessary work.
Mine chirped until you touched the clutch. Drove it a few hundred miles then it let go. Took it to the local indy and he will be installing a new clutch kit and pressure plate (the latter cracked).
yep sounds like the same issue. Chirped until you put any pressure on the clutch pedal. I took mine to the mechanic yesterday and he confirmed it was the throwout bearing. Hes installing a new clutch kit today/tomorrow.
