very nice and clean install but what about the fuel management and augmentation?

Man that looks very clean like it was suppose to be there.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

haven't gotten it back yet, but the install sure looks clean, eh? will report back once i've gotten it back and have driven it
price was $11k installed. power is:
pre-SC/ at crank per Porsche/ at wheels per dyno/ drivetrain-loss
hp 300/ 248/ 17.33%
lb 258/ 218/ 15.50%
post SC/ at crank per DL calcs/ at wheels per dyno/ drivetrain-loss
hp 433/ 358/ 17.32%
lb 342/ 289/ 15.50%
won't much be able to tell you about reliability for a while by definition unless something happens early - which i highly doubt.
wow. very nice and clean install but what about the fuel management and augmentation? I have done many superchargers before but only on lower compression engines. I hope the fuel system has been modified including pump and regualtor as well as ecu. I would like to see a dyno run with the mixture ratio, as well as a car that has at least 30k miles after the install. The only reason I say this is becasue of the compression ratio stock etc. I am curious as to how long it will take beore the valve guides are wasted, exhaust seats killed and oil bellowing occurs. I am not trying to be mean, but I haven't seen anything live at that compression and boost that long without ill effect.
ECU was remapped and larger injectors were installed. Going to be quite a while before one has 30k miles - the vast majority of 996s still don't have over 30k on them :-) But, if all you're talking about is a valve job down the road, that wouldn't be too bad at all. FWIW, there have been many low boost kits like this one used in high compression cars that have had lots of trouble free miles on them by now (ie: E36 M3, 993, Boxster, etc).
Hey Ben,
I've been waiting a long time to see some pix of this install. I thought maybe you and Scott had given up on doing this! Glad to see you haven't, and I hope Scott will also check in with details on his progress.
Like the others said, we'll all be very interested in the details, when you get it back. Which is when, by the way?
=Carlos=
100HP! that is awsome... did you just bolt on? Any engine work? Very nice Ben! You will love the SC, a couple warning... Break it in... Get ready for the whine...(Which I happen to like)... low boost should not really effect the engine long term...
Q: Did you intercool?
Q: How much boost?
Ben, I remember when the 996 came out back in 1998 and all the magazines and tuners were raving about how the engine is so high strung that it can't handle any modifications except for some intake/exhaust freeing up for a maximum of maybe 20hp at the crank improvement. Now here we are in late 2003 and they've come out with an extremely well integrated blower kit that gives the naturally aspirated 996 some serious muscle. Enjoy the car, looks like it's going to be all smiles from here on out.
SANDOVAL, that setup looks intercooled (or "aftercooled" as they sometimes call it on SC applications) to me, the black box on the right side of the engine bay is the intercooler.
yes, it's intercooled (and the third radiator is installed up front - scott and i already had it though) and boost is 5 PSI. i'll probably go get my car sunday, and work begins on scott's this week!
erik: can you elaborate on "break it in"? tia
hey charles.
probably going to get it sunday and will fly over with my wife. thanks for the offer though and you're welcome to come down as soon as it's back. but, i'd like to see a little more from erik on the "break in" comments before i get crazy with it.
"is the intercooler air to air or air to water type?"
liquid to air.
"looks good, very clean install, cant wait for the dyno numbers"
dyno numbers have already come out. 358hp/289lb at wheels.
Well... I "broke" my Procharger SC at CA FOS because it was not broken in properly... Meaning take it easy on the blower for the first 500 miles... When I got home it was making a loud clacking sound... Don't beat on it to hard as it is a hard temptation to overcome! Have fun with it! We need to hook up so I can see!
Look at it this way the SC has a one year warranty... It is the hassle of pulling it...shipping it, waiting 3-4 weeks and re-installing the sucker.... that is annoying.
ben, did they change the clutch or any tranny parts to strengthen for extra power? I'm thinking of doing this on my car also, but i'm worried the clutch won't hold the power.
although it was not required, i upgraded to a stage 2 clutch and lightweight single mass flywheel. there was a large labor discount for installing these as well as it reduces SC install time:
EVO Bullet Flywheel and Sachs sport Clutch Kit Upgrade LEVEL 2 (STREET) : This level 2 upgrade contains all of the level 1 system and incorporates solid billet flywheel. The OEM 28 LB. dual mass flywheel is replaced with this solid 12 lb. CNC Machined aluminum and steel flywheel. The weight reduction allows the motor to rev quicker for better acceleration and incredible throttle response. This stronger clutch kit will support any modified Boxster. Offers 100% daily drive ability with little increase in clutch pedal effort. Smooth engagement for everyday use.
NOTE: There is no problems with engine stalling associated with the installation of this clutch system
