For our 6 mo, I have installed his infant seat which has the option of a belt install without the base and was able to install it properly.

Brittax Clickfit seats (I used the marathon) were the only ones that I felt were acceptable for a safety standpoint so that it doesn't move.

You can use towels under the seat base if you need additional height to get the belt to work.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I tried removing one of the rear seat bottoms of the car (they're just Velcro-ed in), but that didn't help a all.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't mean this in a judgmental way for those who are making do with loose car seats... but is there anyway to get a car seat into the back seat of a 996 so that it actually does not move more than 1" in any direction, per safety recommendations? I have tried multiple car seats that other's have said worked for them, but I can't find any way to make it fit snuggly. The 996 seat belt latch points are simply too far forward to make it tight enough. I've spent hours cramped up in the back of my 996 coupe sweating in agony and it seems impossible. I know there have been many threads on this... but the seats that other users recommend don't seem to actually work that well. Any words of wisdom??? I'm one more attempt away from just selling the car and buying a Cayenne.

POST 2Original post

I just dont drive anyone needing a carseat in the car. Cash safety has come a long way since 1998.

Yeah I'm about at the point where I just don't believe it's possible to get a car seat into a 996 so that it's actually tight and safe. I think a lot of people say "oh the car seat technically fits so it's all good" when in reality there is a lot of play, which makes it too unsafe for me. In my case though, I work from home and I have a 2 year old in daycare, with another one on the way. I am hardly ever driving without the 2 year old in the car... so the 996 is collecting a lot of dust and it's driving me insane that I can't get a secure fit for the car seat.

POST 4Original post

Congrats on the pending new arrival! Curious what car seat are you using and is the 2 yo rear or forward facing? For our forward facing 3.5 year old I use the Britax Poplar Convertible - Slim ( https://us.britax.com/shop/car-seats...tible-car-seat ). With the cars rear bottom seat removed, I can easily get it snug where it basically doesnt move and meets all the manufacturers specs (recline angle, overhang etc). Plus the locking mechanism is super easy and quick to install and remove so works great as a flex car seat for short term install on other cars (grandparents, nanny, etc). Not as plush as her normal seat so probably not great for long drives, but I only put her in the back for local drives anyway (but thats a personal choice). Also not a ton of head room but currently no issue. I havent tried it yet in rear facing mode if thats what your looking for but could try it out if interested once i get the car back (separate issue). She loves riding in it. For our 6 mo, I have installed his infant seat which has the option of a belt install without the base and was able to install it properly. Had to put the front passenger seat back down though, so wasnt a great solution. only did this in pinch where i needed to go around the block without access to our daily cars. Included some pics below. hope this helps (again, can take more / a video if interested when i get the car back)

POST 5Original post

20 years ago we used the Britax Starriser model car seat and it fit perfectly in the back of my 2004 C4S. It was narrower than most seats out there at the time. I have no idea if there is an equivalent version today.

Kids have to be in car seats until they're dang near old enough to get the senior citizen discount at Goodwill these days. Not to mention car seats are like 3x the size they were back 20 years ago. I don't see how it is possible to put a kid in a car seat that fits in the back of a 996 that won't get you arrested for child endangerment if you got pulled over.

POST 7Original post

I've tried many seats. Brittax Clickfit seats (I used the marathon) were the only ones that I felt were acceptable for a safety standpoint so that it doesn't move. Also, doesn't damage interior.

POST 9Original post

I solved this in my 968 with two things: 1) Radian RXT child seat 2) Mighty Tite seat belt ratchet 996 probably similar. You need a child seat with a narrow base and high pass-through for the belt. Then the Mighty Tite installs on the shoulder belt and allows you to ratchet it down tight. You can use towels under the seat base if you need additional height to get the belt to work. I got the Radian RXT at Target about 8 years ago, I think they're owned by Diono now. You can probably get a Mighty Tite on Ebay.

POST 10Original post

I think I remember using a narrow seat as others said and also I removed part of the seat. I think the bottom cushion sorta Velcros down and taking it out allowed the seat to sit down a bit more and was more snug. When I was Porsche shopping I brought my car seat with me and asked to put it in the back. The used car guy was being weird about it and said he had never seen anybody do it before. Isnt that the whole point of a rear seat in these cars? Never meant for an adult. Was the family car appeal of it and the reason why the 911 remains so popular among family men. Love that the new gt3 touring finally has back seats. It has been long my issue with street 911s when from factory they take out the rear seats. Its what makes a 911 a 911. some of my favorite pics are of my son in the back seat of my Cabrio wearing ski goggles in his car seat. enjoy it! I know it seems like they are in seats forever but its crazy how fast it goes. Embrace each stage.

POST 11Original post

My information is probably dated now, but when my daughter was a baby (she's 23 now), I had a forward-facing baby seat that I could just buckle in without a base. You had to loop the seat belt under the baby seat through pre-existing holes in the baby seat (which wasn't that easy) and leave it in the car. Without the base, the baby seat was considerably narrower, so that was the only way that I could get it to fit. I tried removing one of the rear seat bottoms of the car (they're just Velcro-ed in), but that didn't help a all.
