Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Quick question on your opinions. I am running my 996 for the track with Recaro PP (Pole Positions). The steering wheel is too far for me so I need to buy either; - A column extender: https://www.design911.co.uk/p/porsch...-wheel-spacer/ - A momo mod 7 (Porsche edition which is a beauty): link My question concerns safety both with helmet (mandatory on track) and on the road. Visually and from a usage perspective I always wanted a momo, but I am a bit concerned about removing an active safety feature. On the other hand the airbag is now 20+ years old. What are your thoughts?

POST 2Original post

I am much more affraid of being trapped in a wrecked car that may possible catch fire on the track then i am about hitting the steering wheel when i always wear a seatbelt for normal driving. I am using the NRG detacable hub and a 3" omp dished wheel. The nrg unit is much nicer then the momo hub and u dont have to remove the clock spring or mess with the horn wires.

Hmmm. Thanks for the feedback! I found this on NRG's website; https://getnrg.com/products/srk-189h...fad00fbf&_ss=r , normally one has to play around with the wiring clockspring etc. like on this => Ebay kit . Was it really just plug an play ? Normally this is the process https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...ng-photos.html What I don't get about the NRG kit is 1. how is the horn button connected to the OE cable and 2. on the momo kit there is a "prong" that stick out to deactivate the turn signals and that is also not there. Does the kit simply turn the clockspring ? Thanks!

POST 4Original post

Yup pretty much plug and play. Not sure if its seperate but u just plug the jumper into the factory harness. Black wire is horn, other is the airbag resistor.

POST 5Original post

I love the Mod 07. Not only does it feel way better over the stock 3 spoke, in both feel and size, it also dramatically improves visibility. I can see the entire gauge cluster. Also, it makes the interior almost seem airy with the thin spokes. Its something I touch every time Im in the car, so its been a pretty noticeable change overall. I very much enjoy it. Plus, as Im 63, the added space has been greatly appreciated.

POST 6Original post

Have you ever driven a pre-airbag car? If you have, then likely you won't fear going airbag-less. After seeing firsthand the results of the first generation of airbags, and a more recent Takata airbag explosion that killed a young high school girl just minutes from my home, I don't have much trust in airbags, especially 20+ year old ones. I prefer to only have seatbelts. I really like my MOMO steering wheel and FunctionFirst shift ****. This is where you connect to your car, make sure to use what feels best to you.

POST 7Original post

My Momo Mod07 upgrade is probably my 2nd favorite mod I made after the Ohlins. Like others have said, It's something I touch and interact with non stop and having the wheel closer and in smaller diameter helped me a lot with heel-toe as the stock wheel had me hitting it with my leg every time I shifted. I did think of the safety aspect, however, I always wear my seatbelts and have been able to lock them up during emergency breaking when bedding in new pads. For track, with a helmet, and even more so a hans device, it's not something that I was concerned with at all. Plus I love the look!

POST 8Original post

Lots of good info. I just ordered a Momo Hub (amongst other pieces I need) from Vivid Racing. Im not sure it will include the hardware to prevent an airbag light. Can anyone point me to where and whats needed to get the jumper pieces/ what is needed. Im fairly handy so I can make it myself if I know what parts are needed. +1 Vote for the Momo

I've posted about the solution in my build thread. After reading countless threads and posts, many with no clear answer I found that The answer is 2.2Ohm +/- 5% resistor to be installed in the airbag wiring (orange plug) . I've had it for a few months and no air bag light with my Momo wheel.

POST 10Original post

how often are passengers injured by passenger side airbags?

POST 11Original post

Voted to remove. I did the same but with a 964 Cup wheel all gas no brakes.

POST 12Original post

I too did the momo mod07 with NRG hub. Really changed the feel of the car for the better. Steering wheel is in a much better position and is a better size. I dont even run it all the way out and it is plenty close. It cuts off the top of the gauges for me although you can buy an offset adapter to make it more like the stock wheel The NRG hub really makes the installation quite easy with nothing needing to be cut. And without hacking the clockspring I can swap it back if I wanted. They even provided 3 resistors even though you only need one. Super easy install and if you dont want a quick release they have hub spacers to hard mount the wheel and bring it out. The only thing I dont like is the logo stamped all over it. Oh and I couldnt get the horn button retaining plate installed so I just used electrical tape to get the horn button to press fit flush with the wheel. I want that Porsche classic wheel too, they had both the red and black versions at my local dealer. it looks just like my mod07 but with the Porsche script engraved and nicer leather with stitching and a wider rim as a result. Mine has no stitching and is thinner.

I just did this as well. I loved TexSquirrels look and as they say imitation is the highest form of flattery Looks great with the console delete Heres a before and after

POST 14Original post

I'm doing the NRG hub + QR and Momo wheel install as well. When I tried to torque the 24mm nut to spec, the hub would spin, so I pulled the key to lock the hub in place, I got it to spec but the hub crushed and broke my clock spring. I ordered a new one but would love to avoid this next time I install. Does anyone have any tips to avoid this problem or know why it happened? Thanks!

POST 15Original post

I wonder if the taper on the hub is wrong? The nut should not be able to do that.

Momo Prototipo. I was a Deputy Sheriff in California for 25 years. I never saw an accident where an airbag prevented injuries. I did see several occasions where they caused injuries. I was more than happy to delete mine.

You shouldn;t run an airbag on track if you can help it. I have the Momo as well as the off-centre boss kit and Works Bell Paddles (Tiptronic you see as daily driver in traffic) and it is great. The offset boss addition makes a huge difference for wheel clearance
