I don't need any coolant system work at the moment, but when I do I'll replace the rubber hoses.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Odd question maybe, but I noticed something after spending far too much time on BaT. The coolant hose on the right (see pics from random different BaT listings) often has a crusty white appearance to it, even if the other coolant hoses look clean and black. I noticed this on my 996 when I changing my oil over the weekend. Any idea why this specific hose would look like this when the others don't? Thanks for humoring me!

POST 2Original post

Looks fairly normal to me. Clean both and see what happens after a few drives.

POST 3Original post

Isnt that the original cosmoline applied at the factory?

POST 4Original post

I wonder the same thing and then I just changed the one on the right ($20) and then it looks like the one on the left and be done with it.

Cleaner side hoses connect to WP/T-Stat, items that have been changed out on most all 996 maybe numerous times by now.. Most techs that R&R a WP/Tstat, also clean the area up somewhat when doing the job. Some even get new hoses there when doing the new WP/new Tstat job.

POST 6Original post

Mine was crusty, cleaned it up with a toothbrush and sprayed protectant on it.

POST 7Original post

I simply replaced mine when I did the WP/T-Stat replacement. Cheap and easy.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't need any coolant system work at the moment, but when I do I'll replace the rubber hoses. Thanks, all, for sharing your thoughts.
