Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Currently using backup key (haven't found original key yet - just moved residence), but I'm afraid the problem is the ignition spring and not the key.

Do you have to replace anything else along with the switch?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ignition spring not working after 14 months of storage. Typical symptoms - instrument panel lights and door chime remain on after key removed, lights/wipers not work unless jiggle key to left. Currently using backup key (haven't found original key yet - just moved residence), but I'm afraid the problem is the ignition spring and not the key.
Can anyone point me to recall or techincal service bulletin databases so I can determine if Porsche will cover this.
It offends me that I have to pay for a new ignition switch for a car I purchased new only 5 years ago and now has only 23,000 miles.
Then again, it also offends me that my front rotors became dangerously warped while the car was still in warranty, but the dealer from which I purchased the car (Midwest Auto Group, Columbus, OH) said Porsche would not cover it . Sorry, I should make that another post.
Still driving on dangerous rotors,
Phil
I am a Boxster guy so I know about the recall for a limited number of 1997 ignition switches. With that said other years including 996s have the same problems and if your warranty is over then you get charged. My switch was replaced twice. Once in warranty and then again after warranty due to the recall.
Chad with a 1999 996 replaced the switch himself.

The switch has been revised several times over the years. Jeff
Your dealer may cut you a break.
I recently had a leak in the coolant reservoir and Porshe picked up most of the cost.
They charged me 125.00 even though it is was 9 months out of waranty.
The fact that is was serviced regularly , by the dealer, seemed to help.

Does anyone have the instructions re: how to replace this ignition switch? I followed the link, then tried to email the person who replaced his, but renntech.org said I was only a 'guest' and would not let me email.
What a coincidence... in the parking lot today in my '99 996 C4 cab and first my key wouldn't go in, then I got it in, then it wouldn't start or come out, then it started but with limited electrical (no wipers, and it was raining!). So I turned it back a hair to the left and wipers worked.
So. I have the same problem. Can you forward me the detailed instructions Loren sent on replacing it? There's a VW dealer 10 miles away, Por$che Dealer is 50! My email is

Thank you so much in advance - right now it's an awfully heavy and pricey paperweight in the garage... was there a full moon last night or something?...
Thanks!
Kim.
BY THE WAY! My husband's name is Phil as well!
