The problem is the stock C4S springs are too stiff so am trying to find a softer spring.

I changed the springs on my on my 2002 C2 back to stock from the previous owner’s lowered springs.

But, I run a couple of sets of wheels with different tire sizes and compounds for different purposes.

As an example, I have run a stiff track oriented set-up on my 996.2 since 2006 for both street and track driving.

Might want to have someone familiar with a 996 check the suspension for worn/lose/binding parts/arms/joints/struts/rubber parts/etc....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, c4s does have the sport suspension, slightly shorter stiffer shocks and springs. IIRR it has B4 sport mo30 Bilstein shocks/struts.
But, if you're looking for a "softer" ride, might not be the 4s suspension specs causing your problem. Might want to have someone familiar with a 996 check the suspension for worn/lose/binding parts/arms/joints/struts/rubber parts/etc....

All suspension parts are good as has 50k miles. Just looking for comfort stock is too stiff.
Been down the coil over route and like all the adjustments but valveing is geared more for track than comfort even on softest settings and soft springs. I also have a Boxster S with Koni’s and stock springs that rides pretty good.
Not an option as that size just doesn’t look right especially on a C4S. I have the same wheels and tires on my Boxster it works good. The main problem is in the front. Just need softer springs on the C4S. It’s not a race car.
I changed the springs on my on my 2002 C2 back to stock from the previous owner’s lowered springs. I have a set of coilovers in the garage that I never put on. I ordered them a little stiff.
I definitely prefer the OEM springs with stock suspension and 18 inch wheels, but then again…I’m a geezer now.
I’m liking the gentlemanly ultra sport coupe feel. Those Porsche engineers kind of knew what they were doing.
Those M030 dampers are firm as hell at city speeds and feel much better on the highway. If your complaint is largely about those slower speeds, then you may want to switch to Koni Special Actives. At that point, you can reuse your M030 springs or find a set of base springs (if you think the dampers wont be comfy enough).
That’s my thoughts exactly. Koni is good on my Boxster which is the way I’ll probably go. The problem is the stock C4S springs are too stiff so am trying to find a softer spring. Is the standard c4 spring softer than mine as looks like it fits?
Wow. I literally came on here this morning to see if I could figure out if there is a unique M030 spring for the C4. For example, the H&R springs for the C2 are different than those for the C4. I have a 2000 C4 and want to lower the car a little bit. Would the stock springs from a C4S fit a C4? And vice versa for the OP?
If you're on stock USA suspension you can go with USA M030 or RoW (Rest of World) M030. Both will lower the car, the RoW more than the other one. Neither will be radical.
OP you might look into GT3 sizing on the front tires. It will give you a bit more sidewall and will not require new wheels. 235/40-18. Also I like the Koni Actives recommendation. I'd try shocks before fretting over springs.
It's not the tires. The C4S has stiffer springs than both the C2, C4 and Boxster. It was too stiff to begin with that's what started me down this road to start. You would think coilovers with 30 clicks and 3k springs up front would be able to be softer than stock on full soft.
But no way. I didn't order the race setup but their street setup comes standard 6k/12k springs. That's crazy, fortunately I didn't order them that way. I think we need them to at least move for the street. Stock springs for C4s is 3k/5k, c2 is 2.5k/3.5.
It appears the problem with stiffness on the coilovers is valving.
The rear sway bar can also contribute to discomfort when going over single-wheel bumps. If there is a smaller rear sway bar for the widebody cars, then you may want to make a switch.
Sure, you can rework the entire suspension on your car and spend lots of money on parts. Or you can try a set of cushy 235x40x18 and 285x35x18 tires to soften it up. Since you want comfort and not performance, I would suggest a set of all season Michelin AS4s or the Conti DWS. They are both softer sidewall tires that smooth out the bumps.
As an example, I have run a stiff track oriented set-up on my 996.2 since 2006 for both street and track driving. But, I run a couple of sets of wheels with different tire sizes and compounds for different purposes. Both sets of wheels are 8 & 10 Carerra 2s.
1. The first set is for the track, which is 225x40x18 and 285x30x18 which is presently a set of RE71RS. They are very stiff sidewall 200w sticky tires that you feel everything.
2. The second set is for the street, which is 235x40x18 and 285x35x18 Michelin AS4s. They are bigger and softer than OEM sizes which soak up the bumps and smooth out the very stiff suspension on the street.
Night and day difference. May be a cheaper solution to try. Just make sure the tire sizes you choose works with the PSM and AWD rules.
