Suggestion

I'm pretty sure that I saw in the manual that you can top up with any weight synthetic but to use all of the same weight during full oil changes.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd like to add a little oil because of burn-off, but don't know what the dealer used last. I was planning to put in Mobile 1 with a 15W50 weight -- if the dealer put in a different weight, am I playing with fire? Or can two weights mix ok? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Different engine oils can be mixed, even synthetic and mineral. However, it would clearly be preferable to top-up with the same oil as the original. Factory fill is Mobil 1 0W-40, but there should be little label in the engine compartment telling you what's been put in at the last service (if not, ask your dealer and tell him to put a label in next time). Cheers, Uwe

POST 4Original post

Yes, you can mix viscosities - that's how the oil co's do it, except they call it "blending". High tech term, there.... J

POST 5Original post

As others have said, you can mix oils approved by Porsche. This is stated in the latest TSB for approved oils issued by Porsche 5/23/03. Jeff
