Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

After 32 days of ownership I've broken the first 1000 miles just running around Los Angeles.

Started another road trip this morning in the ol' 996. Figure another 1400 miles should give me a good break down on how this lil gem is running.
Give a wave as ill be between Daytona and Birmingham stretching and flexing my right foot!
My wife and I took the 996 cab on our yearly fall vacation trip a few weeks ago. Was about 1,500 miles of widely varying driving. We had interstate, lots of two lane highway, and a couple hundred miles of nasty-good switchbacks. The car never missed a beat and added a new dimension to our vacation whereby the car was a large part of the enjoyment.
Got off the four lane and ran every back two lane I could find through Georgia and Alabama today. No radio, just driving and shifting and listening to the engine.
Office found me twice by phone but the drive time was awesome. Forgot to stop and eat and made it here, over 650 miles on 1 1/2 tanks of fuel!
After 32 days of ownership I've broken the first 1000 miles just running around Los Angeles. It's been 16 years since my last Porsche or anything near this performance level. My last manual transmission was my 2000 Golf 1.8t. But driving this car everyday is better than the fountain of youth. The old skills and the seat of my pants is coming back.
Heh, that's temporary camber. The offside rear wheel had just as much opposite camber at that moment. This is what you get when one rear wheel is on the pavement and the other is 3-4" lower on the gravel. These cars are very stiff, especially the C4 cabs. No body twist.
I did that drive around September from Fort Lauderdale but in a boring Lexus RX
I'm planning to go to Tennessee from Fort Lauderdale to the Great Smoky Mountains next year in the Porsche nothing beats a road trip!
It was a great drive except for a lil rain, on Wednesday morning.
The best part of the whole trip was on a fuel stop coming back to Florida while in southern Alabama.
A wide eyed young man, maybe 6-7yrs old was pointing and talking with his father about the car when I came out of the store. He asks if this was a Porsche, was happy to confirm and he proceeds to tell me he will have one just like it! I was so much reminded of those days back when growing up in rural America and would see a elusive Pcar come into my town and get close up views.
That all being said and having a memory moment, offered to let him get a closer look. He went into the cockpit and had a high ol' time turning lights on and playing with the steering wheel. His dad thanked me for letting Gary have a closer look.
When I drove away they were just getting into the car and could see their conversation was about my 996. Hope to have left a good impression and find him in his own Porsche someday on here! Made the drive home even better.
3 road trips this year alone. The furthest one to Quebec.
