If you swap to an aftermarket headunit, just buy a radio DIN female wiring adapter and check the pinouts on the attached pdf for connections.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I had a question about swapping our the lovely OEM stereo on a non-Bose 2003 C4S.
a) does anyone have any clue as to where to find the wire harness to hook up to the aftermarket stereo?
b) do you need a dash kit/bracket for a single din head unit?
Any & all input would be appreciated,
Thanks!
I installed a single-DIN Kenwood into my 2000 Carrera. Purchased from Crutchfield so it came with a harness adapter. Just make sure you make the right connections for whatever amplifier you might have.
The above posts aren't exactly applicable to you, unfortunately.
Up until 2002, it would be a simple swap. 2003+ uses fiber optic wiring, not standard speaker wire. There's no easy way to connect with a harness. You have to manually run wires from the front amp location to the head unit.
Do a search on 996 MOST Audio and you'll see tons of posts.
on 2003+, Its fiber optic cable for the signals to the amp and CD changer in the frunk, not to the speakers. The speakers use regular wire.
If you don't have an amp or CD changer, then you have regular wire to the back of the radio and no MOST connection.
is the radio a CDR-23?
Check Car Audio Innovations website. They have a complete package with harness available for the 02-05 996's. Its kind of hard to navigate the website but look for their store. Not affiliated but spend a lot of time looking at their packages. They also provide tech support.
If it is the base (non-bose) head unit, there is no aux amp and no MOST bus hassles... Even on a 2003+. My experience is directly with a non-Bose 2004 996.
The four speakers (two dash, two rear) are driven directly from the head unit, and uses standard DIN car radio connectors.
If you swap to an aftermarket headunit, just buy a radio DIN female wiring adapter and check the pinouts on the attached pdf for connections.
Standard CDR23 DIN connectors
wiring harness adapter (it only replicates two of the three DIN connectors, all that is needed)
