My hope is that between replacing the valve and checking/replacing the vacuum cannister, that I'll finally get rid of these codes which have plagued me for 2 years.
Leading evidence: 'Smoke-test system multiple timed and can't find a leak' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

To get to it, you have to remove the alternator and while you are at it you can check the starter alternator or Y cable.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi -
I keep getting P0491 and P0492 errors. I've smoke tested my system multiple timed and can't find a leak. I do realize though, that it could be the vacuum cannister that could have a crack in it, so I'll be testing that as well, but.... here's my question.
I decided to test my SAI pump which works fine, and the Durametric will turn it on and off. However - no air is coming out of the exhaust which I read is a consequence of a stuck/failed SAI pump check valve (
99611325770). Before I go in and replace this, are there any other parts that you think could be failing that would cause this issue?
My hope is that between replacing the valve and checking/replacing the vacuum cannister, that I'll finally get rid of these codes which have plagued me for 2 years.
Its a simple system. The pump turns on, an electrical signal is sent to the change over valve (18). The valve opens allowing vacuum to be pulled on the check valve (11), thus opening it.
What to check when sai action is called for:
1. Electrical to change over is present
2. Vacuum input is pressent
3. Vaccum In other side of valve has vacuum when electic is applied.
4. Check valve open when vacuum is applied.
@De Jeeper
How do I check each of these:
1. Electrical to change over is present - via a Voltmeter?
2. Vacuum input is pressent - by hand or with a vacuum gauge?
3. Vaccum In other side of valve has vacuum when electic is applied. - with a vacuum gauge?
4. Check valve open when vacuum is applied. - not sure...
Also, did you mean to include an attachment to correspond with the numbers in your answer (18,11)?
Thanks
It sounds like there is no question that the check valve has failed because when it fails it fails in the closed position. You can test this by connecting a separate hose to the secondary hose removed from the air pump and trying to blow into it when the engine is started from cold. Also, the diagram shows there are parts #9 and #11. These have been combined into one part which is the part you referenced above. If the SAI pump is blowing air but the valve stuck, just replace the valve. To get to it, you have to remove the alternator and while you are at it you can check the starter alternator or Y cable.
The SAI system is really simple....All the Components can be tested individually on a Bench or in the car with just a vacuum hand-pump, a vacuum gauge, and a 12v battery...( if you understand how the system works and each component)
And then the overall system can be tested dynamically with engine running via "Self-Test" ..
