I have seen them used on the turbo cars but that is probably overkill and much more expensive than need be?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alright no offense to fabspeed or evo. There stuff is cool and in fact I want to do the same thing, however I don't want to pay 200 bucks for it. I went to home depot the other day and tried to rig something but it only half worked. I need to find a place to buy the silicon hose just by itself so that I can run that straight to the airbox as I have a nice plug for the silencer hole after I remove it. Incidently the silencer is huge, and does open up an enormous amount of area up for the airbox and filter element. Anyone know where I can get that silicone hose for a decent amount? I have seen them used on the turbo cars but that is probably overkill and much more expensive than need be? Thanks in advance! Make my bmc breath better!

POST 4Original post

Someone either here or on Funcars posted a link not long ago to some Turbo shop that sold these hoses.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Really I did a seach on the airbox mod and jeru found a place but there was something about it that wasn't quite right, namely the price was a bit but something else as well. Thanks Loren!

POST 6Original post

Loren, I read on CFG's board that you were preparing a 996 DIY board. Is that right? If yes, can you please post the link? THX JM

POST 7Original post

Yes, it is a primarily Porsche technical Q&A information and DIY stuff. RennTech.org

POST 8Original post

No offense, but you have a Porsche, and you aren't willing to spend 200 bux?!? I know thats actually kinda offensive, but trust me not trying to insult you, just kinda wondering why 200 is too much to ya for a CAI. I mean I guess this doesn't seem like a lot to me because the CAI on my M5 was over $1500. I mean maybe you are a do-it-yourself kinda guy, thats just what I am wondering. Seriously though no offense, just wondering. Evan

POST 9Original post

AMG, lol...some people are just trying to be thrifty and that is the reason they probably can afford a porsche. no offense, just trying to point out the obvious. I used to pay $200 here and $500 there for parts on the porsche, my first year in buying the car I spent $15k on all these add ons, only to see them go for $1k when my friend pulled a fast one on me. We have a family friend my dad tells me is worth easy $400mil and is so cheap he drives his 85 chevy pickup truck from Sac to SF for his doctor's visit in Stanford. The guy had lung cancer twice but went into remission after getting $10k a pop injections that aren't covered by insurance, but can't even hire a $50 an hour town car to drive him back and forth. (he's 70+ yrs old) This is the type of guy who's been mistaken as the janitor as he swept the floor in his business a few times. Truly, we gotta admire these guys who try their best to save a buck Cutting corners on useless things can save us for more important things especially on rainy days.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it's not about being cheap. I will pay for parts that warrant the cost from the R&D and cost of construction but 200+ bucks for a hose and a cap seems a bit expensive hence the reason for the diy. I also do like to do diy as well and I think the majority of the people interested in the thread are also. would I build my own exhuast? No but I think I will put on a different hose and a cap and spend the money on 100 octane. P.S. I like the thread about the janitor dude. My father has always been the same way and until recently I always thought it was an embarassment, but it comes down to who you want to impress and really how you like living your life.

POST 12Original post

SPR, I was valet parking cars in my dad's business when he had his grand opening a few years back and it was fun. Nobody realized they were tipping me, $1 or $2 chump change when i was doing it for fun. They even tell me things like take good care of my 10 year old benz when I had a better car than them. SPR, you have a good point. I know you ain't being cheap, because I too won't let these bastards make a big profit margin off me being ignorant and saving the few bucks. The parts worth $20 cost $200 = 1000% profit margin for them. I got mines on ebay for $80, which is still expensive compared to the parts, but at least I helped a fellow Porsche guy get some of his money back.

POST 13Original post

cheap? no id say just like me, why pay someone else to do something your more than capable of, im painting all of the interior pieces of my car right now as we speak to match the color of my car as well as doing the air box mod in a few days while the trim drys

POST 14Original post

Sean, I will ask my aircraft mechanic to see if he can locate some. Will let you know on Monday.

POST 15Original post

I figured you guys would have a good reason, thats all I was after, not insulting, I know see you points. Good luck with making one, Evan

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

neat. Loren is also looking into some stuff as well. samco makes some but the tp is smaller than the mf so it is a funky hose that is 9" long with a 45. I hear you about the valet thing. I had a friend who worked that for money in high school and I used to go and hang and work for free because it was fun. It also was behind the viper room on sunset so that was a perk also
