Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is it to just replace the filter with the BMC or to go with the Fabspeed Motorsport 996 airbox performance enhancement kit along with the BMC F1 996 Airfilter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this has been discussed a few times and I have been looking through the archives but I would like a few things clarified. What is the best way to go at this? Is it to just replace the filter with the BMC or to go with the Fabspeed Motorsport 996 airbox performance enhancement kit along with the BMC F1 996 Airfilter. I have been reading Loren's instructions and others. But I would appreciate anymore insight also has anyone had a problem with the check engine light, etc... Differences with and without this upgrade. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

I've had the modified air box and BMF filter on my car for about a year with no check engine light alerts. The internal muffler(resonance chamber or whatever) reduces intake noise but also reduces the area that could be inducing air. The modification "opens" this area, also has a free flow intake hose versus the ribbed stock hose. Its all about getting more air, faster to the engine. I like the fact it keeps the stock snorkel to suck in "cold" air( not in Texas this time of year) versus cone filters that intake engine compartment heated air. Its a low bucks modification with no side effects and I like the noise! Just don't over-oil the filter, that may trigger a MAS fault. <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />
