Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting these wheels refinished for my white 996.1 c2. Not sure to stay with Porsche color, or go with something different. What you think would look best nowadays..?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is this the gold you mean,,, Porsche Weiss Gold 539..?

POST 4Original post

Yep exactly, I'm looking at that color for my E88s when they finally are ready to be rebuilt.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes, the gold looks great...! Was also thinking about Anthracite...?

POST 6Original post

That's my second favorite and the color I'm looking at is BBS Diamond Black.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Weiss Gold,, Anthracite, BBS Diamond Black all look so good. How to make a decision.. What would look best with the Biarritz White/lobster interior car..? Is this the BBS Diamond black..?

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 20092766

Yep that's it and I love your set up, the gold would like nice against the off white hue of Biarritz.

POST 9Original post

I am old school always thought a white Porsche looks great with color matched white wheels Rich

POST 10Original post

I love how white wheels look, but I’ve never had a set. Worried about what brake dust would do to them.

POST 11Original post

Wei Gold would be a good complement to your interior and Biarritz. Is your top black? If so, black centers with polished lip might look proper. I’m a sucker for Porsche black center caps.

POST 12Original post

If they get painted professionally with a few hard coats and clear yea the dust shows but those wheels design are not very hard to clean. If cleaning wheels is a concern go black 😀 Rich

I'd ceramic coat them for sure.... very little up keep even with our dust heavy pads.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies guys, all of them are good choices. Would like to try white but the old timer in me says stay with more conservative standard Porsche colors... Might have to find a good deal on another set of wheels to try out other options. Will talk to my wheel refinisher/powder coat company in Deerfield and see if the Weiss Gold or Anthracite is available. Leaning towards Anthracite today, yesterday it was gold.... lol He did say a special color other than Porsche oem would be extra... Got a new set of TW200 tires on close out from Tire Rack for $700 to put on the newly finished rims. Love sticky tires on the 996. Nice thing about the Deerfield wheel refinisher guy is he mounts and balances the tire on his newly refinished wheels so he's responsible for any scratches/damage to the new finish...

Might be worth finding someone or paying someone to Photoshop in the different color options to some side photos of your car. For me, gold looks either absolutely amazing, or horrible (gaudy), depending on the exact color of gold selected. The Weiss gold is so light, it seems unlikely to have the risk of looking bad. I love the Anthracite color looking just at the wheel, but not sure how it goes with white (or if the wheels might look like dirty silver on the car). Silver is universal for a reason. No bad choices among those three. I personally don't like black wheels, or white color matching. My brother had white Fuchs on his 1975 white 911 and we both couldn't find a way to like the white wheels. The only thing that matters is you like the color, but I'd say getting someone to photoshop in the colors on your car/wheels would be worth the time/effort.

POST 18Original post

I’ve recommend Plastidip before to people to turnout a color. I‘m hesitant to suggest having silver wheels painted black. A friend of mine plastidipped his turbo twist wheels black at my suggestion. After a few months he had them powder coated black. There are many colors to choose from. I’ve considered painting my wheels gold to see if they look good with my Seal Grey. Another friend put gold wheels on his grey BMW and I was certain it would look horrible, but when I saw them I really liked them. But now I’m hesitant to go gold with my 996.

Gold just requires very careful selection of the color. I hate probably 4 out of 5 gold wheeled cars I see, but the 1 out of 5 that I like I really love. I definitely wouldn't do gold on any car without someone photoshoping the gold options. I had a highly modified Datsun 510 in high school circa 1980. At that time, BBS gold wheels were all the rage. I don't think BBS made wheels that fit the 510 and I couldn't afford BBS in high school anyway, so I ordered Cobra brand BBS-style wheels. The Cobra gold was slightly different than BBS. I'm pretty certain the BBS gold color would have looked great, but I didn't like the slightly different color gold on the Cobra wheels at all after I put them on. Too difficult to ship the special order wheels back in those days for a judgement error on my part, so I lived with them. It's a very fine line between which golds work and which don't.

POST 20Original post

I may also try Anthracite Grey. https://www.dipyourcar.com/collections/wheel-kits Here’s my current wheels:

POST 21Original post

Nice car TexSquirrel. Those red calipers, and the black accents (and carbon fiber) really give off a subtle, polished OEM+ look.

I don't know, my vote would be to go for the gold! I suspect that light Weiss gold is pretty safe in terms of not looking out of place. Would be good to see it photoshopped though.

POST 23Original post

Gold would look amazing on the white in my opinion.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20096065

Thats a good idea...

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, Weiss Gold might be the best, but that Anthracite sure looks good... lol If car was ever going to be sold, what color would be best for resale..?

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car looks amazing. Got that road warrior 'mean look, ready for battle.... very nice HyperDip is an interesting idea...hmmm

POST 27Original post

With the interior color, I would go with Weiss Gold or something in the bronze family.

Your car is beautiful! I'd love to see more pics of it. I have the same Biarritz white on a Boxster with on metropol blue and it is striking as well.

POST 30Original post

I think the regular silver wheels really compliment and contrast the Biarritz white. Best of luck with your decision. Hope you post the results.

Anyone know what color code this is,? refinishing shop needs the code....

POST 32Original post

Is that an Apex Wheel design? You could call them and see if theyll share the color code. https://apexwheels.com/wheels/forged...ize=18x10-et25

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, they came out a little on the dark side.... what ya think...? They get dirty fast, just gone maybe 50 miles and they need to get washed already. but they do clean up easy,,,,

POST 34Original post

Question is, are you happy with them? I think they look great!

POST 36Original post

As long as you like it thats all that matters.....who car what others think!

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20167435

True that... I do like it, just that... Second guessing myself,,, maybe should of gone with the Weiss Gold color... Those TW 200 tires are sticky, sure picks up all road debris and it sticks to tire....lol

POST 38Original post

Whites a color that goes with almost everything. I like sliver/gray'ish myself on white

POST 39Original post

Since you're asking for opinions, I'll give you mine. I don't like them. I'm not a big fan of the wheel to begin with, and the dark color on white, just meh. I'd get some of the 408s or 413s, Turbo twists, or Fuchs.

POST 40Original post

Save the gold until you've had these awhile. Need to see them in different lighting. I like them. I like the contrast. I have a set of Apex wheels in Anthracite waiting for tires. Now I have an idea what they'll look like on the white car. Waiting for the next, if ever, company bonus to fit them up.
