I installed the B&M at 77 miles and adjusted cables correctly.

Suggestion
Though I have heard of people with problems of 2nd slipping out of gear and having their tranny replaced, but before I do that, I would have the dealer check the TDC of the shifter first.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

seem to have a minor irration when driving in 2nd gear in town traffic every once in a while the shifter will just pop out of gear. it only happens in second. i had a b&m short shifter put in recently (which i love)and it still happens occasionally, any suggestions.
sounds like the stop is off, if it has one? I remember a friend with a cobra said that all the time. However as the 996 ones I believe don't have stops? I would say your cables aren't adjusted right.
I don't think they are doing spot repairs of things that require tearing down the gearbox. By all means have try to make an adjustment, but that is a symptom of something being bent inside.
this happens to my car also every now and then. I was told it was because I tried to force it in when the syncros weren't aligned in a misshift a few times.
Just make sure you stick it into 2nd firmly, it probably isnt in all the way. You probably notice it more when you blip the throttle and let off, the shifter pops out of second?
I doubt you need a new tranny.
I had a B&M installed as well in my C2.
It would pop out of reverse a lot.
The install of the B&M has to be done very carfully.
When installing you have to make sure that the shift mechanism is at TOP DEAD CENTRE (TDC) or else you will have problems.
There is a special tool that Porsche mechanics have to make sure the shifter is at TDC before installing the B&M. If not done right it will do this.
Though I have heard of people with problems of 2nd slipping out of gear and having their tranny replaced, but before I do that, I would have the dealer check the TDC of the shifter first.
Did it happen prior to the B&M shifter?
If it did, you will need a new tranny. This is a very very common problem (unfortunately) and many people have had to have their tranny replaced.
If it only happened after you installed the shifter, you're probably ok, and it's something else as suggested above.
Seriously though, if it happened with the stock shifter, take it to the dealer, and tell them the problem you had before and are still having.
Mine does the same thing when cold, occasionally. More when it was new.
Are you saying I need to get my tranny replaced? Especially since the frequency seems to be decreasing?
Thanks,
Scott

oh, one more thing: mine does it only at the point of clutch release just after shifting into 2nd. It typically feels like I'm not able to get the gear lever fully "seated" into 2nd.
however, I've never had it pop out once it's in gear...
Mine only used to happen on decel!!
I installed the B&M at 77 miles and adjusted cables correctly.
I dropped my TT off to dealer yesterday for a new tranny. They had 4 other TTs in the past 8 months with the same problem, two of which had no B&M!!
