I have used many wheel cleaners on my wheels and have learned the following (somewhat the hard way at times):

While I'm at it, I use P21S cleaner and wax on my car.

Suggestion
Make no mistake about it, cleaning wheels is hard work and any spray on, wash off cleaners are usually acid based and will ruin your clearcoat over time.

Suggestion
use p21s wheel cleaner or other and use the groits green sponge mit thing or use an old speepskin mit, I replaced mine with microfiber- works great just did mine today btw.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think they are easy compared to many other designs but I'm still having problems getting them REALLY clean.
I am having a hard time cleaning my wheels.
I have the Turbo style 5-spokes that come with the C4-S. These are supposed to be "easy" to clean. I think they are easy compared to many other designs but I'm still having problems getting them REALLY clean.
For example:
Lug nut holes
The outer rim behind the spokes
Brake calipers
I am at the point where I just want to take the wheels off the car every time I wash it which isn't very practical.
I've seen some products on the Griot's website that are specialized brushes and they look like they might help but I really don't want to make this too complicated or expensive.
I did a search and didn't find anything here...
Any ideas?
TIA
Lance,
You might try taking them off once, doing a thorough cleaning, then applying wax to the wheels. This way brake dust, etc, will wipe off easier, and you won't need a special tool, as the dust should pretty much wash off. The Griots brushes are great tho...
Agreed, after cleaning your wheels using car wax really helps clean the wheels later on. It easily doubles the time between having to clean your wheels and when you do clean them the brake dust just slides off.
Also if you live in a area that rains a lot it will be much harder to clean. When the brake dust dries on the wheel after driving around in the rain it really bonds to the wheel.
I personally use this product, it's a spray on wax specifically for wheels:

Lance,
I have the Long Handle brush, which works well at getting into the lug nut area. Looks like the Three Wheel Scrubber brushes would work well too, but based on price and 3-pack, seems like they might be less durable (one or 2 cleanings) tho I've never used them.
I really like Griot's Wheel Cleaner spray. I spray it on the wheels before I hose the car, then after the car is wet, I hose off the wheels. The brake dust/dirt is gone. I've never had to use a brush! But, I never let them get too dirty.
I have used many wheel cleaners on my wheels and have learned the following (somewhat the hard way at times):
- Used P21S wheel cleaner, somewhat satisfied.
- Used Griot's separate wheel and rubber cleaner for about a year. They were acceptable, but if you are happy with the cleaner after trying the 32 oz versions, bite the bullet and buy two pump sprayers and the 1 gallon size of each.
- I just bought the small size of Blackfire wheel and tire cleaner to try. I really like this so far. It seems to get the grime off my wheels and the gel off my tires the best so far. I think I will continue using this and will purchase the larget size next time.
Make no mistake about it, cleaning wheels is hard work and any spray on, wash off cleaners are usually acid based and will ruin your clearcoat over time. Hand scrubbing is required every time, as evidenced by the rotor marks on the top of my hands. It always takes me two times for each tire (i.e. spray/wipe/rinse spray/wipe/rinse)
Also, I agree that you MUST wax the wheels. The best wax for my wheels I have found, again after many tries is Klasse all-in-one. While I'm sure other waxes will work, I like the Klasse product the best.
While I'm at it, I use P21S cleaner and wax on my car. I have found that that is the absolute best bang for the buck and time. (With all due respect to the Zaino devotees, I just don't have the time).
Target and Longs Drugs both have a lot of brushes in the larger stores, cheap. Just be sure to wash the wheels first instead of last, always takes longer than it seems and cuts down water spots a lot.

They are the least expensive place I have found yet.
