If this continues your dealer should check your instrument cluster with his PST2 and see if there are faults and check to see that the newer version software is present.

The software has been changed to trigger an oil warning not only for too little oil but also for too much oil (blue smoke at startup problem TSB).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My oil indicator message has been showing up on the center message board. I have had the idiot mechanics look at it and of course it is a mystery to them. I have had the oil changed, air and oil filters as well. Seems to happen under load and high RPM's. Could this be an oil pump failure or just life in the fast lane?

POST 2Original post

What year car? and exactly which display? The oil pressure warning light ot the mini gauge that measures oil level? When running or on restart?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it is an 02 C4S. It is not the light. It is the message on the message center of the center gauge. Oil temp, pressure and levels are all normal. The message comes up when I am driving the car under load. For example when accelerating onto the highway and wind the car's rpm's to 5,000 through each shift. Or sometimes right after I start the car and jump on it. But in all cases the message goes away and the car operates fine. I thought that under certain situations oil doesn't get to the engine or some such thing.

POST 4Original post

That oil level display is new for MY02 and newer. The software has been changed to trigger an oil warning not only for too little oil but also for too much oil (blue smoke at startup problem TSB). If your oil level is sensed as 0.5 liter too high or too low it will trigger this message. If the oil level is too high you need to lower it. If it is too low you need to raise it some. If this continues your dealer should check your instrument cluster with his PST2 and see if there are faults and check to see that the newer version software is present. They should also look at the TSB as it called for a new dipstick for some early production MY02 cars.
