Basically I am fairly set on a Boxster S at the moment, but a 996 has come up on the radar.

I had a test drive booked for Sunday but could not make it so I don't hold my own opinion at the moment...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a Porsche in the next few weeks (2nd hand) here in Sydney and just having a look at a few alternatives.
Basically I am fairly set on a Boxster S at the moment, but a 996 has come up on the radar. The main reason is that the dealer where I looked at a good S has a '00 996 for a very good price. However, he also has a Maserati 3200GT for the SAME price (a '99 model from memory).
I had a test drive booked for Sunday but could not make it so I don't hold my own opinion at the moment... but I should get a chance to drive both next weekend.
Has anyone else come up to this comparison?
PS. Reason for choosing S over 996 is cause I really want a convertible. And the 996 Cab's design just does not tickle my fancy.
I have not heard good things about Maserati in terms of engine quality or handling despite the Ferrari DNA. Plus the older 3200 with turbos had a lot of problems.
You should take the Maserati for a spin and see how it handles compared to the 996 or Boxster. I think you will be suprised how badly it corners.
On another note it looks good and the interior is nice.
For me, it was a choice of a loaded '01 986S, a loaded '99 C2, a fairly plain '00 C2 or a brand spankin' new 986 2.7l with few options. All about the same money (the '00 C2 was about $10k more). I chose the Boxster S for the value of it. I got a former garage queen with $17k worth of options on it that looks, feels and drives like brand new for what I'd have bought an older '99 C2, out of warranty and although not worn out, obviously not brand new. I'm happy with my choice!

Thanks for the opinions
I appreciate it.
The cost in Australian Dollar is
Boxter S '01 - $106,000
996 '00 - $130,000
3200GT - $130,000
New Boxter - $135,000
TT Quattro Roadster - $97,000 <- nice car, but not in the same league as the S <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
