Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 99, and my LCD display under the tach is acting strange. First, this morning it was off completely - the 2 other LCD displays were on. I could actually see the speed and temperature very slightly (extremely faint), but it was as though there was a backlight which was not working. After a few minutes, it turned back on, and interestingly all of the LCDs were brighter than they had been before. Has anyone seen this before? Maybe there's a TSB on this? Please let me know...

POST 2Original post

First there are no TSBs for the instrument cluster until the design changed for MY02. The MY02 and new cluster is quite different from what was used in the MY01 and earlier cars and can not be retrofitted. If you still have warranty... this would be a good time to use it. Barring a loose wire or bad solder joint most of these problems require replacing the whole cluster (kind of sound like a power or connection problem). Plus you need a Porsche PST2 to run diagnostics on the cluster. Sorry the news isn't better. Actually, if Jeff (aka Tool Pants) sees this I think he has a couple of broken clusters that you might try and scrounge a part off.

POST 3Original post

Same thing happened on a friend's 1998 Boxster with no warranty and a bulb replacement fixed the problem. Sometimes he could not see the center LCD display. It could be other things but I would try that first. There is a bulb for each display, the ones with the tan bulb holder. Cool - I do have a warranty, and I think that I'll let PCNA figure this one out. Thanks for the quick response...
