I did use 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound which states on fron that it Safely and effectively removes 1500grit or finer scratches and then followed with Imperial Hand Glaze.

You may want to try using 3M Imperial Hand Glaze first, then if that doesn't work, step up to 3M Swirl Mark Remover (they make one for light, one for dark colored cars).

I have always been paranoid about using an orbital to wax for fear of swirlmarks, burning paint etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Someone ran their fingers along the passenger door scratching the clearcoat. I have never used random orbit buffers to polish my cars but being a furnituremaker do know how to operate one and the one I own is exactly the one Griots sells. I just ordered their 3 polishes and sponge bonnets. Wondering if any of us here have used these with success.
Thanks <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" /> thats me waxing
It sounds as though the scratches are fairly light into the clearcoat, by that I mean if you run your fingernail LIGHTLY across the scratches, you can not feel them.

These can all be applied by hand and are fairly gentle.
I have had good success with these products in the past and you can get them farily easily (NAPA, etc).
At first you could just so very little feel the scratch with your fingernail. I did use 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound which states on fron that it Safely and effectively removes 1500grit or finer scratches and then followed with Imperial Hand Glaze. The scratch looks better but is still there. The problem is that I probably could get the scratch out but I don't want to flatten the factory orange peel in that spot making matters even worse.
Thanks,
Cortland
On the subject of Griot's waxes...
I have always been paranoid about using an orbital to wax for fear of swirlmarks, burning paint etc.
However after reading through Griot's catalog they make a good argument for using it. Especially the mention of NO swirlmarks, ease of use, and much less time to do.
Can anybody comment to the validity of these claims? And if you just bought the orbital are there other waxes you could use with it i.e. P21S, Zaino, Zymol etc.
TIA
Just used the orbital the first time this weekend with my friend.. he has a black 98 cab and we did the clay then the polish #3 then zainos and the cars came out awesome... it got out most of the swirl marks and the cars shine like a mirror. I guess if we did more polishing it would have been better but heat was not a problem with the orbital. It realy cut down the time factor.
What was your opinion of Zaino on a Black car?
I have heard various opinions on Zaino and a good portion talk about the finish lacking "depth", especially on Black.
Can you comment on the look? Did it look like it had any depth or was it just "shiny"?
Hi Guys,
I probably can remove the scratches but risk removing the factory orange peel also, and that would do more harm and look worse than the scratch in my mind, right. I heard factories incorporate orange peel to hide body panel imperfections and paint imperfections. And I have 13 different flaws on my new 996, some are really bad
