Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My car sits in a garage for four or five months sometimes so I use the Porsche battery charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
Leading evidence: 'Use porsche battery charger' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tire pressures' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If you want to disconnect the battery, that wouldn't be too rash either, but not necessary at this point in your car's life.

Should I disconnect the battery and leave the front hood open?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
Is there a 'special' procedure to store a 996 for 3 weeks?
I'm scared the battery is going to run flat and I won't be able to open the front hood.
Should I disconnect the battery and leave the front hood open? Will this erase any memory? I have a 2003 car. I've heard that the new most bus radios don't have security codes.. hmmm
Also i don't want to come back and find a bird's nest in the front of my car!
Any ideas?
thanks
Chucksta
I don't think you need to do anything to a new car, even if it does sit for 3 weeks. Just check your tire pressures when you get back. Probably will be unchanged though. If you want to disconnect the battery, that wouldn't be too rash either, but not necessary at this point in your car's life.
regards,
After a while, I think 5 days, the electronics go into standby mode. When you come back your remote won't work. Before you flip out that the battery died, remember to unlock the door the old fashioned way and everything comes back to life.
I spend a lot of time abroad so when just before I leave, I pump the tires to thier maximum psi and drive the car up on several layers of old carpeting. This prevents flat spots. Just remember to deflate to proper settings when you start her up. I also pour a little bottle of (something, I forget the name) so the gas doesn't seperate in the fuel tank. Also fill the tank, prevents any condensation for forming.
If I'm wrong, please let me know. I've been doing this a while, it seems to work for me.

There are a couple of other things you can do for long term storage that you probably don't need for 3 weeks:
- place an open bottle/box of baking soda in the passenger compartment to absorb moisture and avoid mildew in the carpets
- place a box of moth repellent in the engine compartment to keep the mice out
- stuff rags into the tail pipes to also keep critters out
The Porsche battery charger is a good idea for storage of more than a couple weeks just to be sure.
